How easy it is to get an Indian visa for Chinese citizens in China? My university in the US has a number of Chinese undergraduate exchange students (business majors) and I am encouraging them to visit India and read the Indian business press. One of them asked me how they would get an Indian visa (presumably in China) and I of course turned to IndiaMike

Thanks Mickey S and burf:

It appears that Chinese citizens cannot apply for Indian visas by mail in China (US citizens can apply for Indian visas by mail in US). Are there local courier service agencies or does it require an in-person visit?

Thanks

As you use the word "employee" they need an Employment Visa not Business Visa, hopefully that is what they have applied for.

Visas for Chinese citizens do take a long time to come through, as China is a "referral country" meaning that additional background checks on applicants are carried out. Several months is not unheard of, even for a tourist visa.

The requirements are no doubt clearly set out on their local Embassy website, but include submitting a contract of employment with their application.

However, one thing you need to know is that for a foreigner to be issued with an Indian employment visa, the Indian authorities need to be convinced that the work they will be doing is of such a specialist nature that it was not possible for you to fill the job using Indian applicants.

What is the nature of the jobs these Chinese workers will be undertaking, and why do they have to be from China?

As you may know there have been issues with Chinese workers coming to India on Business visas when they rightly should have had Employment visas. See this thread:

Here's some recent information on the differences between Business and Employment visas: http://www.mha.nic.in/pdfs/work_visa_faq.pdf

The current government focus on this is going to affect the speed and outcome of your visa applications. The best thing you can do is to be certain that you're applying for the correct visa. Please do post the results as it's helpful for others in similar situations.

Not sure if this is fixed.
I am a Chineses, have been applied 3 visa to India from last July, one was business visa, and 2 were tourist visa.
If your company employee visit customer in India, instead of working there, they can apply business visa. Employee visa takes 6 months at least by the new rule.
If people go there for tourist purpose, of course tourist visa.
All documents for above 2 kinds of visa are listed on VFS websit. Below is vfs websit of Shanghai.
http://www.vfs-india.com.cn/shanghai/chinese/index.aspx

My experience for applying Indian visa:
Last July, company hold a meeting in India, company India office sent me invitation and related documents. Got my visa in 4 working days.
Last Oct, I applied a tourise visa to visa my boyfriend, I was requested an interview because I applied a different type of visa too soon after biz visa. I provided an fax invitation from my boyfriend who is Indian citizen, then I got my visa approval in 4 working days after I submitted the application. If it's first time for your people to apply Indian visa frist time (Tourist visa), you don't need the inviation.
This Feb, I applied 2nd tourist visa, I attached my boyfriend scanned inviation along with my applicaiton & documents, I got my approved visa in 3 working days.

My point is that you must need to know what kind of visa they need, you can call VFS in Beijing, or Shanghai or Guangzhou, depends on the applicant's residency.
