Good day! I am not an Indian and I am not applying for an Indian passport, but my boyfriend is. I am writing this for him, it's the only way I know to help as I am not in India to do things.

He applied for a passport last year, Feb 3, 2011. This happened in Chandigarh. Four days later, he had to move to Mumbai for his job. So when the police officers came to his house to check if he was a resident of the address as claimed, he wasn't home and his mother, who could have simply said "yes, he is my son and he is a resident of this house although he is out at the moment," instead said he was already in Mumbai due to his job. So as per SOP (perhaps, I'm not sure how it really goes in India), his papers were sent to Mumbai for police verification, which delayed it even longer because the police department thought the application was done in Mumbai and unfortunately sent the verification to Mumbai passport office instead of sending it to Chandigarh, where it should be.

After finding out of the misfortune of his application, he went to check with the passport office where he had to fill out a PP form (now, I dont know what this PP is). Anyway, as per the online portal of the passport division, his current status says:

The status has been this for four months.

Police Verification Report for your passport application is under review at Regional Passport Office. After Police Verification Report is found clear, passport will be dispatched. You would receive an sms/email once the passport is dispatched.

Is there a way to cancel the passport without having to pay a fine so he can just do the process all over again?

Can somebody tell me how he can possibly fix this problem?

His dad even paid an agency to do further processing, which cost at least 8K, all for nothing.

He also recently lost an opportunity for a secondment to China because of this pathetic situation. I hope someone can really help.

Thank you.

Is the status from RPO Mumbai or Chandigarh? The status says that police verification is complete. Was the verification done in Mumbai? These agents hardly help. He should take an appointment with the PRO of the Regional Passport Office which is handling his case and sort out the matter. Normally passports are dispatched within two weeks of police verification.

Well, the application was in Chandigarh, verified in Mumbai (he was already visited by a policeman) and after that, his status was changed to this. And it's been four months.

Angry police verification for minor?

hello,
I have applied for fresh tatkal passport at PSK for My daughter AGED 7 YRS .BOth parents hold valid passport with spouse name endorsed. Status today showing as ..."Police Verification (PV) has been initiated and a PV request has been sent to SP Office, District ******. Your passport will be dispatched after Clear Police Verification Report is received at Regional Passport Office. You would receive an email/sms once the passport is dispatched." ..why police verification needed in minor when your site says .."If either parent of the minor holds a valid passport with spouse name endorsed, passport will be issued to the minor without any police verification. Original passport of parent(s) should be presented for the verification of particulars. "..please clear as passport needed urgently

The Passport Office website (please refer Minor section of the page) says
Quote:
If either parent of a minor holds a valid passport with spouse name endorsed, passport will be issued to the minor without any police verification. Original passport of parent(s) should be presented for the verification of particulars. If parent(s) hold a valid passport, but spouse name is not endorsed, then they must get the spouse name added in their passport. For this, they have to apply for reissue of passport and get the specified change done in personal particulars. Thus, it is necessary that spouse name should be endorsed on the parent's passport.

well,Nature lover15 -- first ,you can not cancel the passport process, second - ask your boyfriend to go to the passport office and fill the RTI (Right To Information ) form. <i am going to do it tomorrow, as today only i came to know about this thing > third - no need to pay any agent or agency...RPO has stopped accepting files or applications from the agents or the agencies . fourth - sad to know that your boyfriend lost an opportunity for a secondment in china.
Thank You and All The Best
