Hello,

My Name is Nitin Toora.
I am planning..to visit abroad..(May be USA or New Zealand ) to pursue my Post graduation.
But in my certificates.. ( Xth , XIIth and Graduation) my name has been written as Nitin TORA. ( 'O' is missing ) though in my passport my name is correctly written.
I have got my name changed legally after which only i applied for passport, license etc.
Though Name in my rest of my certificates has been wrongly written/
Kindly please tell me what can i do to rectify this issue and problem that i may face while applying for Student visa. It would be a great help.
Thank you

Did you submit the legal document indicating change of name along with the visa application?
A can of worms...
- what was your name before legal change
- what is the name after legal change (Nitin Toora?)
- what is the name in certificate (Nitin Tora?)
- why do you say the name in certificate is wrong (it was right, you changed your name, that's not certificate's fault).

It is astonishing why you could not notice the typos earlier!?

It seems, you would be required to get all the certificates corrected!

in my case the passport was missing the correct surname (was their mistake but i just ignored) & visa was rejected. i had to go back to passport office & get that rectified with an added clarification note & resubmitted the visa application & it was cleared.

Firstly , thank you for your reply.

@paramiyer
Here are answer of question you asked.

Did you submit the legal document indicating change of name along with the visa application?
Ans: Yes.. I did submit legal document ( newspaper cutting and affidavit ) along with the visa application.

A can of worms...
- what was your name before legal change
Ans: My name before legal change was Nitin Tora
- what is the name after legal change (Nitin Toora?)
Ans : Yes my name after legal change is Nitin Toora .
- what is the name in certificate (Nitin Tora?)
Ans: Yes. My name in certificates ( Xth , XIIth and graduation ) is Nitin Tora.
- why do you say the name in certificate is wrong (it was right, you changed your name, that's not certificate's fault).
Ans: Well. My corrct name is Nitin Toora but wrong name has been written on my certificates , just to address this i wrote it.

i think it is time to get rid of your guilt...
your certificates have the right name (Tora) as that was the name at that time. you did a legal change to Toora & your certificate along with the proof of name change is adequate.
btw, in passport application (not sure if on passport too), one needs to mention the earlier names - i assume you put Tora there as expected.

as long as you have all the legit documents, draw attention to the discrepancy along with explanation, there should be no issue with the visa. all the best!

@nitsrox, May I assume that name appearing in the passport is appearing correctly (as Nitin Toora)?

If this is the case, then you are worried about name mismatch in passport and certificates?

If the answers of both the queries are in affirmative, then you need not worry much.

It could be very easily resolved by going through the notarized declaration. You would also be required to paste the advertisement (which you had placed in the local newspaper at the time of name change).

You may produce a copy of this affidavit wherever asked!

It would be great if you could share your experience and how could you sort your problem.

BTW, once created a thread won't be removed from the Forum unless it is some sort of advertisement and violating the rules of the Forum.

Hey Nitin,

Did your Notary Affidavit work? I am in a similar soup. All my certificates and documents have Satabdi Das, except for my master's degree documents, they have Shatabdi Das written on them. How do you think I can sort this?

Why is the Master's degree significant ? The High School or Undergrad degree should suffice.
