By this june 2014 my old passport was about to expire and so i applied for a re-issue stating the same and got everything done. Received my new passport yesterday, but my bad time, the old passport number printed in the new passport is wrong. I have a valid US B1 visa in my old passport and so now this reference is getting importance.

What should i do now?
I called RPO and they are asking me to re-apply for fresh passport again. Should i do that and carry 3 passports with me?
Even if i apply for a new one (3rd) the old passport reference will be the (2nd ) new one i just received. but my visa is in the old (1st) one.
please advice and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I need to travel to USA on may 11th on business meetings for three weeks. Please guide me.

Thanks in advance,
Arun.

Visit the PSK where you applied with both old and new passports and request for the passport to be changed. Applying for another passport is not the right advice.

They should do it without cost.

Arun should write an application to the Regional Passport Officer and carry both the passports with him to the RPO. A correct passport should be issued within a week.

He will have to carry only old passport and new passport during his foreign trips.

Still I'll suggest you to visit RPO.

Please visit this page for guidance, which says:

If you find any mistake/error in the particulars printed in the passport booklet ..., please return the passport for necessary rectification.

The letter will have no value.

Ideally the RPO should keep the IInd passport and issue a new passport with correct details.

thankfully i met a good RPO officer duing my visit and he agreed to take back the 2nd passport and issue a new one with corrected details.
for now current status is
Police Verification Report for your passport application is under review at Regional Passport Office. After Police Verification Report is found clear, passport will be dispatched. You would receive an sms/e-mail once the passport is dispatched.

1. met the officers multiple times and no clear picture initially.
2. applied for a new passport for the correcting the mistake.
3. tatkal not allowed and almost same procedure.
4. police verification, normal interview everything got don.
5. additionally mutilple letter i wrote saying thats this needs to be corrected as i have visa in the first one blah blah blah for mutliple times.
6. passport got esclaatted to APO and there again letter stating the details.
7. penalty of 500rs in addition.
finally all is settled and waiting for the passport with the corrected details.

hope things go well and please pray for me [Have been used like a ball and got tired of this process]

Issue date of old passport is wrong

Hi Guys,
The old passport reference is wrong in my new passport. Passport number and file number is corrent but issue date is wrong. I have not visited any country.

I renewed the passport in November'2016 and found that in the back page of new passport, the issue date is wrong but old passport number and file number is correct.

Old Passport validity - from 01/05/2007 to 30/04/2017
Issue date of old one mentioned in New passport - 01/05/2016

Now my company is in process to raise VISA for Norway where new and old passport is required. I have not visited any country before. Will there be any problem? Please suggest..

As per given details, your new passport was required to carry "01/05/2007" as Date of Issue of Old Passport.

You should visit Issuing Passport Office and get the date corrected.

I have already submitted the documents internally to my company for VISA. If i correct my new passport it would take time which i don't want. Is there be any problem on getting Norway VISA??

Welcome to IndiaMike, bd85

Your passport will last you quite a long time.

It is quite possible that they won't notice the issue this time around and you will be issued a Norwegian Schengen visa, but you are storing up issues for the future, which will be much harder and more time-consuming and expensive to rectify.

You really should have picked up on this last November and had it sorted by now. But you are where you are. I'd suggest getting the mistake fixed, ASAP.

ViShVa is correct.

You must get the passport corrected. The Visa Issuing Authorities check current as well as previous passport. The visa may be denied due to such discrepancy in passport

Thanks for the info.

I checked my online application form for re-issued passport. It was my mistake while filling up the form. Any idea if i need to re-issue the passport again? Or would they manually correct my passport? How many days it would take to get it corrected? It is just changing two digit ( instead of 16, it is 07)
