Really ? It it aint stapled to your new one, and there has been no active visas in the old passport, all you need is an active/current passport.

The only reason I could see for people to say this is if they presume you had some legthy term visa. Otherwise I have never been asked and couldn't find my old junk in a month of searching..

+1 to edward. I was never asked either.

Of course, that I had the scans with me was useful by itself!

Hi,

Yes there is no visa on it.It was a fresh passport that i had to cancel due to the name change. It is not stapled to new one.
They just canceled and returned to me.
I was confused as they had put details of old passport at the end of My new passport like old passport no.,date of issue etc...

Thanks

That has no bearing to your current travel. Never change one's name and identity in haste for deity or human rituals in future

minidimi, you need your latest passport for travels, as that is the only currently valid document (only one passport is valid at a time). The old passports are required only if you have still valid visas in them, and you intend to use them for your current travel.

you are safe, if you have never gotten any visas. And if you have gotten some visas, you will not have a problem, unless you want to travel ( and the document not being available makes your travel impossible) , or get a new visa and get asked for old visa details.

This is as far as travel is concerned.

If you need your old passport for some other reason, and it is lost, you will have to start the process by registering an FIR with the police for a lost passport. The FIR will help you jump some hurdles, but do this only if you need it.
