I promised myself that I will provide an honest feedback on my passport experience. I found a lot of the advice given in this forum very useful and thought I will also document my experience as it may help someone. On the day of visit to the PSK, only I was allowed inside. I was applying for passport reissue under normal category. This is for all of the housewives like me, who blissfully delegate all responsibilities to the husband. So after a rude shock that I had to handle everything myself I reluctantly made my way to the long cue with my husband waiting outside. The first counter checks on all the documents and issues a token. So after a token was issued, I had to proceed to counter A I was told. This is the counter where my documents such as address proof-Adhar card, bank statement as well as old passport copy was again checked and biometrics was done, I was also asked to verify on the computer if all my details were correct. I was asked to pay Rs 40 for sms services and I was asked to proceed to counter B- verification zone. An officer checked my documents and printed my exit slip. Now this detail is important because I was not asked to go to zone C-THE GRANTING ZONE. Why? I do not know. Anyways I was blissfully unaware that such a zone even exists. I asked the officer when I may expect my passport...he gave a very vague reply. I filled the feedback form, and the security gave me the application receipt which had my file number and also details under PV as NA and the status was "Sent to RPO for further processing". I was done in an hour. Why I was not sent to granting zone I have no idea..I believe the granting officer will indicate if PV is pre or post or not needed. I understood this only much later. Therefore in my case the zone visited was only verification zone and therefore the status under PV was NA. So for 2 weeks my status was "Passport under review at RPO". It was driving me crazy and I started reading some forums.I did not understand if police verification is required, not required?? After 2 weeks I visited the PSK and asked for an update. He told me to visit the RPO. When I visited the RPO I was granted passport under no PV. So LESSON 1: If your status does not change for more than 2 weeks, best visit the RPO to find out what is going on. They are the best to guide you. Now after my visit to the RPO I received an sms alert indicating passport is granted and no PV is required. However , my online status remained "under review". I was assured that it was normal that the online status was not updated by the help desk. After about 10 days of my visit to RPO, I received an sms with printed status. In another 2 days my passport was dispatched. LESSON 2:Online status may be different from sms alert. Do not worry. When i received my speed post tracking in the evening, I could not track it till the next morning..It kept saying "consignment not found". However next morning I could track it. So overall it was a good experience except for that first hiccup. Hope my post helps someone. Best of luck!

No need to sprinkle your post on multiple threads...

It is sufficient to post on one thread...

Police Verification

Is it mandatory to take the same people whose name have been given in reference section in passport application form for police verification at local police station?
Thanks!

Yes. If you wish to change name (s), you will have to approach Passport Office and fill a new supplementary form. Passport Office will trigger a new PV.
