No, both parents are not required while applying for baby's passport.

The attested photocopy of passport needs to be submitted along with the baby's application form.

Consent of the spouse, who is abroad, is required for submitting the application of their child. It should be in the form of a Sworn Affidavit duly attested by the Indian Embassy/Consulate abroad (as per Annexure "H").

The signature of both the parents is mandatory on Annexure "H" to be submitted along with the application as it signifies that both parents are giving consent for the issuance of passport to the child. Annexure H is the declaration of applicant's parents or guardian for the issuance of passport to the minor.

Renewal and New passport for Kids

Hi, My son and wife passport is about to expire in 6 months. I have approached someone at passport office for renewal of their passports and new passport for my daughter. I have been told to first renew my wifes passport and then after getting that passport apply for Son renewal and Daughter new passport with both our passports as proof. Reason they have quoted is both the parents passport should have minimum one year validity to renew or new passport for minors. Is this statement true? My wife passport address and mine are different. I am looking to renew and new passport for my kids on wifes address, is this possible? do i have to submit any additional proofs? Thanks.

Spouse name should be endorsed on the parent's passport.

If parent(s) hold a valid passport, but spouse name is not endorsed, then they must get the spouse name added in their passport. For this, they have to apply for re-issue of passport and get the specified change done in personal particulars.

If either parent of a minor holds a valid passport with spouse name endorsed, passport will be issued to the minor without any police verification.

It is not necessary that both parents should have a passport before applying for their child's passport. The advantage of either parent holding a valid passport with spouse name endorsed is that it exempts their child from the Police Verification process.

Either parent/guardian can apply for minor's passport. You would however need to get Annexure H duly attested by the Consular section of the nearest Indian Mission.

How long to get passport for infant?

Hi - we are thinking of pursuing surrogacy in Gujarat and my husband has an Indian passport with US green card and I have a US passport. I was wondering how long it takes to get a passport and visa for an infant. What sort of visa would we get and what's the best place to get it done? My husband's family lives in Bangalore so we could get the passport there as well.

Thanks!

Passport for New Born

Hi,

I need to apply passport for my baby girl (1 month old).
Only I am having a valid passport. Spouse name is not endorsed.
And have got birth certificate.

1. Is this enough for applying passport for my baby?
2. Do i need to take my baby girl to passport office?
3. Do i need to take photograph of her?

Thanks

Firstly you will have to get your spouse's name endorsed on your passport.

You will have to carry baby's photograph with you as minor applicants below the age of 4 years need to carry a passport size photograph for the processing of application at the PSK/PO.

Address proof and ID proof of parents will be required to be submitted along with application form. Generally police verification is not conducted for infants, but, if required, Police verification will be done for the parents.

If either parent of a minor holds a valid passport with spouse name endorsed, passport will be issued to the minor without any police verification. Original passport of parent(s) should be presented for the verification of particulars.

If parent(s) hold a valid passport, but spouse name is not endorsed, then they must get the spouse name added in their passport. For this, they have to apply for re-issue of passport and get the specified change done in personal particulars.

Passport application of a minor with consent of both parents (Annexure "H") is required to be submitted on which the signatures of both the parents is mandatory. It is to be submitted along with the application as it signifies that both parents are giving consent for the issuance of passport to the child. Annexure H is the declaration of applicant's parents or guardian for the issuance of passport to the minor.

Further, will it not be difficult for an infant to travel only with father when mother is not accompanying? But it was just a curiosity for my end.
