Hello,

I have general Passport related query for my niece. My niece has been issued passport from RPO, Bhopal 4 months back. That passport was issued to her when she was unmarried and living in Bhopal, 4 months back at the time of issuance of her passport. Her address mentioned in her passport is of Bhopal at the time of passport issue four months back.

Presently, she is recently got married One Week before only to a Jaipur based boy, working abroad. Now her present address is Jaipur. My niece does not have any address proof of newly wedded husband house in Jaipur, as she was wedded one week before only. Her husband passport was issued from RPO Jaipur 5 years back. Her husbandís address mentioned in his passport is of Jaipur.

She wants to go with her husband abroad in nearby time.
Now, my niece wants following changes in her Passport:-

1. She wants her new Husbandís address (Jaipur) to be mentioned in her Passport. But, she does not have any address proof of Jaipur (Her husbandís place). How can she produce address proof of Jaipur, as she got married one week back only? How can she do her newly present address of Jaipur in her passport?

2. She wants to Change her Surname in her Passport and addition of her Husbandís name in her passport.

What kind of Documents required for fulfilling her Address Change request, Marriage Status change request in her passport? Where she has to apply for above changes in her passport Ė RPO Bhopal or in RPO Jaipur?

Please clarify these issues as this is very important and urgent to us. I will be highly obliged, if you suggest and guide us for obtaining her new Passport with above mentioned changes in her Passport.

Its urgent Plz. An early reply will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kapil

Kapil which foreign country your niece has to visit. Now a days it is not important to change surname after marriage. If your niece has valid passport and she like to visit next week then no need to change. But if she visiting after six month and like to add new address she can approach related passport office.

Just for your information, in my Canadian passport, my home address is not mentioned and no column for my spouse name. Your niece needs a marriage certificate, and it is up to her if she like to change surname or not.
Best Regards,

Why does she want his address in the passport? It is not going to benefit the visa process in any way. I have gone abroad numerous times as my husbands dependent (and he as my dependent) when we had different addresses in our passports.

Anyway - as she is a newly wed, she can get address change(ie a new passport issued) with help of her husbands passport(and maybe his other address proof) and the marriage certificate.

But there is no benefit in doing it.

Why does she want to change her surname?
if it is for sentimental reasons then its different(though she will likely face hassle later on). if its for practical reasons then there is again no benefit in having the same surname as husband.

Spouse name inclusion is useful only when they have a kid and want to apply passport for the kid.
As her husband's passport needs to be renewed in 5 years so he can do the spouse name inclusion in his passport at that time.

As mentioned above - at present time she does not need to do any changes to her passport in order to get visa and join her husband

She will be going to Shanghai, China along with her husband. But, Visa agent told her that her husband's name as spouse must be added her passport for getting the visa. After six months, can she produce her spouse passport copy as address proof? But in husband's passport, her name is not mentioned as spouse. Will husband's passport copy works as address proof in wife's passport?

I just checked the requirements for S1 visa.
S1 Visa

http://kolkata.china-consulate.org/e...w/t1072842.htm

(1) An invitation letter from the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or studies) which contains:

a. Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)

b.Information on the visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place of intended residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures, etc.)

c. Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, signature, etc.)

(2) A photocopy of the inviting individual's passport and residence permit.

(3)Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of immediate family members between applicants and inviting individual.

"Immediate family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18, parents-in-law.

(4) For private affairs, documentation identifying the nature of the private affairs such as marriage, inheritance, adoption, etc. should be provided as required by the consular officer.

(5) Personal written statement (covering letter with details as follows: place to visit, name, address and contact number of the inviting person).

(6) Other documents required by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General.

We kindly remind you that:

Holders of S1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits

Has your niece checked this? Why is she using a visa agent? This looks pretty straight forward(compared to many other countries).
The main requirement is the husband's documents, invitation/explanation letter and the marriage certificate.
There is no requirement of the name endorsement.

In my opinion, there is no need to change the address and surname in your niece's passport. She can simply apply for passport re-issue with her parents' address. Marriage Certificate is a must to add the spouse's name in her passport.

Last year, my wife was in the same situation. We applied for her new passport with my in-laws' address and provided our marriage certificate for inclusion of spouse name. During her visit to the PSK, she told the officials that she is still residing in her parents' house as her husband, in this case me, is working abroad. This worked, actually. My wife stayed in her parents' house till the Police Verification was done and continued to stay till she received her Passport.

I think, it is very important for your niece to be physically present at her parents' house during the Police Verification, if there is any, and till her passport is delivered.

In this case of re-issue of Passport for the inclusion of Husband's name in wife's Passport, without any address change in wife's passport, Is police verification is also done is this case? I have heard that Police Verification process is done only in case Address Change only, not for Addition of Spouse Name in wife passport. Plz clarify on this point also. Reply Soon, Thanks

Police verification may be triggered for reissue of passport.

Applicant should keep herself prepared for the same.

1. If in case we do not got for Addition of my name in my wife's passport as spouse then later on, when we will make our child passport, will it be a problem while making our kid passport as our surname are different, addresses r also different on our respective passports. Will the joint affidavit is suffice in making our kid passport along with our marriage certificate?

2. In case, if both the husband wife surname and addresses on their passport are different and none of the spouse name is mentioned in each of their passport then will it be a problem in making their kids passport. They have kid Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate. Will the both husband wife joint Affadavit will be suffucient in order to make passport of newly born kid?? If it is possible for making the kids passport, then whats are the things, certificates or affidavits are requited to make the kid's passport.

Reply Soon.
Thanks

You should wait till the child is adult for getting his/her passport issued. The no body will ask for parents' passport!
