Hi,
I was staying in a suburb (Ghatkopar) of Mumbai, now shifted to Chembur, Mumbai.
I want to change address in my mothers passport- already issed 2 years back, but update the address in it.

I have the agreement of sale, with my mothers name in it.
The MTNL Telephone landline bill is already in my mothers name in this new home, but we have shifted to this new home only in July 2012.
We are currently processing the ration card- so dont have that ready.
We have changed address in the bank , so bank passbook has updated address.
The new building does not have society formed so getting a address proof from them also cant be worked.
Please let me know, what address proof can be submitted for address proof.
Please help me with this issue.

Thanks
Rishi Joshi

Why do you want to change address on passport? What purpose does it serve for you?

Because a passport is mostly not considered a definitive proof of address. And it is valid for 10 years by when address might have changed.

Agree with Narendra.
Wait until its time of reissue of passport. By then she will have collected a lot more address proofs in her name.

Thanks Narendra and Nayan for a very quick reply.
But the main reason for this address, in near future (couple of months) , i will be applying US Tourist Visa for her.
So all the documents to be up to date and not giving false information for current residence to US consolate, I will have to change the address to the new one.
Please reply.

I have got US visas in the past(not tourist visa though). They were granted on a passport which had my kolkata address while at that time I had lived in Hyderabad for about 4 yrs(and all other official documents were from hyd and I applied in Hyd consulate).

I dont think I had to provide any false information. No one asked why my passport was not updated with my current address.

I have also recieved visas for atleast 8-9 other countries under such circumstances.

So I dont think a address updated passport is a requirement for a visa.

Hey Thanks Nayan !
One more question around this visa thing the US visa which you got, was done by you (individual) or from your company had raised it for you ?
Cause, my company also has raised US H1B visa, the communication address is always the companies and not on the address of the passport.
For tourist visa, i have to show real estate and liquid cash in her account here in India to make the case strong. The address for the real estate is the present home we are staying in.
Bank statement, will have new residence. the passport will show the past residence, it will just add to there confusion. and in my opinion, they just want a small stupid reason to reject any kind of visa.
Please advice.
thanks
rishi
