Hi

I am expecting a baby in 2 months and will be delivering in India. I read that for applying for new born's passport, parents should have passport with spouse name endorsed in it. I currently have a passport with US visa. I have following questions-

1) If I apply for addition of spouse name in my passport, will I get my old passport back with the new? If not, then what happens to the US visa, do I need to get that visa again?

2) Does my husband also needs to apply for the addition of name or addition in my passport should do?

3) Also, addresses on my passport and my husband's passport is different? Should I also apply for change of address with the addition of spouse name? If i keep my current address that is present on the old one, what addresses should I be providing in the baby's passport application?

4) For applying for change in address, can I give my husband's passport as proof?

5) I dont have original documents with me right now. Does the attested copies of the documents will be sufficient?

1. You should get your old passport back, clipped at the corner, and the current visa will still be valid, as long as you carry the old passport with you when you travel.

2. No, he does not have to have the child's name on his passport. The child endorsement on one parent's passport is enough.

3. It would be best if you changed your address to your current verifiable address. Use that for your child's application.

4. Probably not. Use other proof such as Aadhar Card or Telephone/Electricity/Society Maintenance bill

5. Which 'original documents'?

In 2), I was mentioning about addition of spouse name in the passport.
5) mainly marriage certificate. Its with my husband who is in US.

4) I read on passportindia.gov.in that in the list of address proofs, they have mentioned spouse passport copy.
Also, if I apply for change of address, will the police verification happen?

2. As far as I know, that should not be necessary.

4. If the monkey tells you it is acceptable proof, then who am I to argue. If you apply for a change of addy, a police visit is a given. Yes, the verification will happen.

5. Attested and notarised 'true copies' should be good enough.

1. You will get your old passport back.
2. For applying for a kids passport, at least one parent needs to have spouse name endorsed.
3. If the address has changed, apply for a change. What you change to should be the current one where you are living. The same goes for the baby.
4. Yes, if that is the current address. However you will also need the original which makes it impractical. You can use any address document in your husband's name as well.
5. You will need original Marriage Certificate as well as other docs, especially as you are applying for addition of spouse name.

If there is a change of address, a Police verification is going to happen.
