What can I say ? Evokes memory of anjubai's sharp voice, as she sold catch of the day.

Fifty years ago, when we broke grounds for a Co-Op housing soc. there was barely a metal road to versova beach. Let alone a BEST. It was a fishing village, more remote than Juhu Tara. It was also a different fishing community - The Koli

Today, Versova is more than a happening place; It is a happened place on its downslope. But, the charm still exists.

Versova Koli Fish Festival celebrates the community, its culture and it all comes together around Fish !

You did that?

Versova is the place where my dad and his siblings were born and spent most of their life before getting married and moving elsewhere. My great-grandfather started a hotel - probably the first one there. It was run by my grandfather about the time you mention. You remember anything about that?

No I didn't ! But I'm coming (if Higgs-Boson is kind enough) for 2019.

I remember nothing about that event. Just that we had a catered lunch, and a icecream thelawala !

I do remember 7bangla !

Thank you SO much for starting my Monday off with such happy memories! Versova/7bangla was my home for all the years I lived in Mumbai. Hardly any expats at the time, it was my own cocoon. I felt comfortable and safe with the people around (they were used to me if you know what I mean) - from the guys at the local grocer to the restaurant/liquor delivery guys to my wonderful doctor and though we had a few apartments there, I could never even look to live in another location! I loved Ganesh Chaturthi at the beach (will be back for that in 2020!). Love the little lanes around the beach. I was always afraid the rickety old ferry between Versova and Madh Island would sink! :-) Not a bad place for celebrity spotting either. Whenever we're in Mumbai we always visit and take a trip down memory lane. Love that we still see the same people.

I was so happy when I read about the cleanup at the beach - an insane amount of plastic and junk collected!

If you plan it right, you could drop off for 48 hours (layover) and see one of the best Ganesh Chaturthi procession outside of Mumbai, - Paris

As they say in Mumbai - Paisa Vasool (Worth every penny)

Timing is super tight as it is...have to be back Wednesday after Labor Day for start of the school year. Looks pretty cool though. Lots of celebrations in NY/NJ but no immersions.
