Today, 21st January 2015, marks the start of the eighth Jaipur Literature Festival:

Some of my favourite authors are attending this year, such as Paul Theroux, Amit Chauduri, Hanif Kureishi and V.S. Naipaul.

I think it's very large now for the current venue so hope the organizers have done a better job of splitting the main festival itself up in different venues. (The ancillary events such as music stage were pared off to other venues earlier). Diggi palace was overstretched back in 2013 itself. Charging for the fest entry would not be a bad idea any longer.

Dear Shri nycankji, may we expect a report?

Ok, atleast a photo?

ETA : No, a photo of the Kachoris at Panchbatti is not the same thing.

Higgs Boson - I must be crazy !

Once I reach my hotel in Jaipur, I'll let you know which event I'll see. There is still the matter of kafkaisque metamorphing French Military Police at the airport to deal with in a few hours.

I would love a photo of the Kachoris at Panchbatti. If there are jalebis, even better.

Looking forward to nycank's photos and reports, but luckily the Guardian is covering the festival too:

Does anyone know of any live-casting?

The ways things are turning out; On advice of my sage and counsellor, I'll probably post something in the for-pay-paywall section of India Mike, in a couple of days ! I gather from folks who landed here Day 1; Paul Theroux and Vidya, publically patched up ! No Drama !

Got to go !

Well, you better speed that way/
for tomorrow is the last day.

It does get a bit dusty /
and the leftover stars are a tad rusty
(perhaps shouldn't have told him that).

But look at it this way/
In Jaipur you can any day,

meet a kachori coming out of an oil vat /
But not an old man wearing a felt hat.

Never read 'em.

Come to think of it, haven't read any fiction at all since I graduated college a decade and a half ago.

Today, is "Obama, No Drama" day in India. You cannot find a dial on TV which has no Obama OTH, the Gold Zari donning, Marlboro puffing, former CPSU cheerleaders, are spewing frothy foam, while eyeing any pair of pants that would nod in agreement - Why no Putin lovefest, spewed a lit-groupie** at breakfast here at Diggi.
