Varanasi to Siliguri... by car!??

Hi,

I have looked into the train from varanasi to NJP... was wondering whether anyone knows how much a car with driver would cost from varanasi to siliguri? I realise I would have to pay for the return too and that this is prob going to be v expensive!?

I looked into flights - none go direct and you end up even going to delhi or calcutta with massive stop-overs..

Im travelling with 1 other girl (we r both females)and we are already taking trains all over the place and this is towards the end of our 3 week trip and im worried we wont be able to face another 15 hr train journey!

Thank you

This is the only forum where I could find the button to start a new thread. Can't see how to post new thread in other forums. Am I stupid?
Have flight booked to Cochin 8 December, returning 13 Jan. Plan to take only hand luggage and buy a bike in Cochin to see Kerala and Coorg.
Would getting to Coorg be hard going for a cyclist? Was hoping to do some trekking there, leaving bike in a guesthouse. Would I need hiking boots or would trainers do? If likely to be muddy, should probably bring boots, but trying to keep luggage down.
Any help appreciated. This will be my first visit to India.

Hi all:

Canadian citizen, originally from Bangladesh, will travel and stay (3/4 months or more) in Indian hill stations starting from April 2010. What is peculiarity of this tour is that, I will be quitting my job to run away from everything for a year or so to write poems 24/7 along with travelling Bangladesh, India and some other countries. I am earnestly seeking advice from forum member for followings:

1. Would I be able to rent a secured house/apartment/bungalow/cottage in a less crowded hill stations for couple of months for 3/4 adults and 2 children?

2. If I do not get such accommodation, should I opt to stay in a homestay? Would that be secured? If it is, on which Indian hill stations with good road access to hospital, market etc?

3. If none of the above works, should I opt for staying in a resort or hotel apartment (is hotel apartment available?)? Would I be able to get a discounted rate for long stay?

Since it is an unusual long trip, we do not like to stay in hotels and had never visited India, planning it became really very difficult for me. Please advise me.

Regards
Satyajit

Hi everyone - I'm a new here, planning my first trip to India. Looking to go from Kolkata to Goa through Bodhgaya, Varansi, Khajuraho, Agra, New Delhi, Udaipur and Mumbai then back to Kolkata on a domestic flight.

Anyone have any budgeting advice for this route from early January to late February?

Also, I'm in South Korea. Does anyone have any experience processing a visa and getting vaccines in Busan?

Need to spend some more time sifting through the forums - links to places my questions have been answered are much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello,
First I want to thank India Mike for all the valuable information I have gleaned in the last few months! The forums have answered so many of my questions.

I will be arriving in Delhi 3 Dec. and leaving for Jharkand 6 Dec to Volunteer for two months. I will then travel up to Nepal to renew my visa. After which I plan on traveling through out the country for at least three months. I would love to connect with other travelers during that time (approx. March to May)

I am so very excited and a just a little nervous;) but again this site has been extremely helpful:D

I look forward to posting on the forums with questions and future observations,

Greetings, I have been addicted to the IM forum for some months now;so much invaluable information and advice and so many interesting people. I finally plucked up the courage to put 'script to screen' as I'm no wiz with a keyboard.Looking forward to meeting some of you good folks when we embark on a long and hopefully eventful voyage to India in the new year. I will be travelling with my wife.We don't have an itinerary finalized, but will probably have a question or two for you all nearer the time.We are presently living in Barbados, and now that the offspring (2 lovely daughters)have finally flown the nest, we can fulfill our dream of returning to India for a long period of time (also largely dependant on the rental of house).Anyway, fingers crossed and thanks again IM for the wonderful forum
