What bug is this? (Sneng or Fart Bug)

A friend has recently been sprayed by a but in NE India, leaving a contagious rash. As he says, "The sore has now become white and pussy and oozes. It has spread across the neck and now on the face after itching it." When others come in contact with the rash, they get it, too. They need to figure out treatment but only know the colloquial names: sneng bug or fart bug in Assamese.

Anyone know what this is? Either an English name or scientific name?

Dear All,

We group of 5 couples with kids are planning to go to Wayanad -- primarily for giving kids the experience of jungle and wild life spotting.

Request all the readers if you can advise an itinerary, we all are going from Mumbai.

We have roughly 6 days of holiday and 1 day travelling. We plan to take a flight from Mumbai to Calicut and start our trip from thereon.

I request the fellow travellers to guide what is the ideal locations in Wayanad - we plan to stay for around 2 night (hope this is good enough) and from thereon move to some hill station nearby -- say Kodai. Suggest any other location where we can spent 3/4 nights near to Wayand.

Also we are confussed, will we get better bet of wild life experience at Wayand or at Bandipur so the entire plan may change.

If any of you have visited this location -- kindly share your experience

Hi there,

Does anyone know if Periyar wildlife resort in Kerela is open after the boating accident last month. Apparently boating on the lake is now closed and I would like to know if this applies to the whole park or are things like bamboo rafting and trekking still available?

Thanks for your help.

Can anybody give me some recommendations? I prefer wildlife/game over landscape for this specific trip.

Thanks,

My husband and I ( with 4 children aged 9 to 15 ) will be holidaying in India during January. One of our first stops is Bandhavgarh National Park with the hope of spotting some tigers.
I'm keen to walk up to the fort but am concerned about exposing the kids to any possible danger considering the trail leads past caves and waterholes frequented by tigers presumably looking for an easy meal. Is it sensible to walk this track? Any suggestions would be welcome,
thanks in advance!

Hello
I am organising a trip to Warangal, we're going as a group of 4 families. we would like to visit the Eturnagaram WLS when we're there.

The information on when to go, what to do etc, even provided by the forest department is woefully inadequate.

If someone has been there, can you tell me about where you stayed, contact # if any, when you went, restrictions inside the forest, getting a guide to help spot the flora/fauna etc.

thanks much

Urgent advise: Ranthambore vs Bandhavgadh

Hi all!!

My first post on this brilliant forum. After a recent trip to Corbett, have been bitten with the safari bug.

Looking forward to making another trip in January first week, slightly undecided between Bandhavgadh and Ranthambore.

So far my understanding:

Ranthambore: More beautiful forest as well as great fauna (along with a fort); however erratic tiger sightings

Bandhavgadh: Drier forest; but chances of tiger sightings much much higher

Though tiger sighting is clearly a target; still leaning towards Ranthambore. Any thoughts?

Also, any reccomendations on places of accomodation in either places would be really welcome. Hoping to hear from well travelled....

Thanks

After Sariska and Panna now it is Rajaji National Park. According to 2005 tiger counting 24 tigers were to be there. Now they says only 12 can be traced. Unofficially they admitted the remaining may have fallen to poaching. The future of Indian tigers appear only dark. It is a shame that we cant even protect our national animal.

Day 4 - Possible day in Mysore??? Stay at Green Hotel
        Or Go straight to Nagarhole??
Day 5 - Travel to Kabini Wildlife safaris in Nagarhole stay at Cicada or Jungle Lodges??
Day 6 - Wildlife spotting
Day 7 - Wayanad visit Muthanga stay at Hiliya farm house
Day 8 - Drive to Calicut station for train to Goa.( spending a week there before return home.

I would be really grateful for any comments an the itinereay, hotels and activities. We really want to concentrate on wildlife and if possible would like to treck / camp in the park with a guide not just go on the routine Jeep trips? Any guidance welcome.

Many thanks.:)

Hi,

I've got about 3 days for visiting these parks (one of them or both). So I must decide how to distribute this time : visit only one park (which one is better?) or try to see both - 2 days in one and 1 day in another. They are relatively close to each other, but I don't know if the nature (scenery, animals, etc) is nearly the same or quite different.

Nagarhole - Taxi advice needed

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help me, we have booked a night at Water Woods resort in Nagarhole in January. We will be heading there from Mysore and from research I think we will be able to get a taxi to the restort easily enough for 1200 INR from Mysore.

However afterwards we need to get from Water Woods to Ooty. I was worried that taxis might not be so easily available from the resort so asked them if they can provide one for me and they have quoted me 6300!!!! This seems off the charts ridiculous and I am wondering if they are taking me for a ride (no pun intended).

Can anyone help me with a sensible way to arrange transport from Nagarhole to Ooty? Should I arrange it from Mysore before I go to the park? I was hoping I could get a cab for the same price (1000-2000 INR).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure however how different this is from all the rhetoric form years past. Reminder do what you can to preserve a noble animal.
