Hi,

I'm flying to Cochin in a couple of days, I'd like to visit Periyar Wildlife sanctaury, I'd also like to visit Varkala beach, but I'd also like to travel across to Chennai and see some of Tamil Nadu as I have already been to Kerala a few times. I guess the best way from Cochin to Chennai is overnight train, though wondered if it made more sense to go to Chennai from Periyar. Any thoughts on what would be the best plan? I'll be in India for a month. I'd like to visit a hill station in Tamil Nadu, but also have a bit of beach time.

Any suggestions, much appreciated.

Thanks

Christmas in South India?

Hi all,

I would appreciate some advice on Christmas in either Kerala or Goa.

I want to celebrate Christmas Indian style, including the Indian Christian experience, although I'm not too concerned about denomination. However, it should be somewhere that has the religious atmosphere and festivities (i.e. Church services and some variation of Christmas celebrations). I'd like to spend a week or so there.

I don't want 5 star, but should be a decent 3 or preferably 4. I will be travelling with two young kids so need somewhere family friendly (and preferably 'Santa friendly':D ).

I'm presuming that Kerala will be less expensive and commercial but does it offer the experience and festivities that Goa does?

Much obliged for any advice you wish to give.

Thanks,
Graeme

I want to do a houseboat through the backwaters but I'm not sure where to do it from. This will me in mid-January. I have heard that it gets boring if it's done for more than 24 hours so I'm looking for something less than that and hoping to do something that I can do overnight as well. What is recommended in terms of whether it should be done during the day or night and where to start from and where to end and how long it should be done?

Thanks in advance!

I have found out the Athirappilly falls, Paradesi Synagouge, Spice market, Cherai beach resort as some of the things however is there anything else also which you would suggest.

My interests primarily range around food, weirdness (anything weird and I'm interested)

Also If someone can give me suggestions for places where one can have a typical kerela cuisine it would be helpful

12 Days of Kerala

Greetings!

My friend and I are planning a 12 day trip to Kerala this coming January. We will arrive in Kochi on the evening of Jan 1 and plan to stay until the 12th. We would like some opinions on how to set up our itinerary and figure out the best places to stay.

Right now, we are thinking of the following itinerary:

01/01 - Arrive in Kochi at night; overnight in Fort Kochi
02/01 - Explore Fort Kochi; overnight in Fort Kochi

03/01 - Bus to backwaters (morning); explore backwaters (afternoon); overnight in homestay
04/01 - Explore backwaters; overnight in homestay
05/01 - Explore backwaters; overnight in homestay

06/01 - Bus to Periyar (morning); explore Periyar (afternoon); overnight in Thekkady/Periyar
07/01 - Explore Periyar; overnight in Thekkady/Periyar
08/01 - Explore Periyar; overnight in Thekkady/Periyar

09/01 - Bus to Munnar (morning); explore Munnar (afternoon); overnight in Munnar
10/01 - Explore Munnar; overnight in Munnar
11/01 - Explore Munnar; overnight in Munnar

12/01 - I leave for Madurai by bus; friend returns to Kochi for his flight out

Does this allow us a reasonable amount of time to enjoy the highlights that each destination has to offer? Also, is bus a viable option between each of our destinations?

And finally, any recommendations as to where to stay? Here is our criteria for each place, in order of importance:

- Fort Kochi: budget/comfortable; conveniently located; charming
- Backwaters: budget/comfortable; rural homestay; sceneic; lots to explore; wonderful hosts
- Periyar: budget/comfortable; scenic; interesting activities
- Munnar: budget/comfortable; scenic; interesting activities

Thanks in advance!

Thank you in Advance. Please ignore my newness but I am very confused.

Hi, We (me and my 2 daughters all adult) will be at Delhi Airport on Dec 29. at 12.00pm (would like to take a domestic flight early morning on 30th). I have few questions.

1. We want to visit Kerala from Dec 30th to Jan 4th(leaving Jan 4th), yet to make reservation from Delhi to Kerala for the flight. - Like to know which place to make a reservation for (i.e. Trivandrum or Cochin, or Chennai).

2. We will have full Dec 31, Jan. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, total 4 days. Can someone please help in making a itinerary for us. We love to see any thing but the museums or lot of temples. We like to spend at least one night in house boat.

3. As we are 3 ladies, should we take organized tours where someone can pick us up from the airport.

4. What are the activities for the new year eve. for my daughters (in mid 20s).
Our budget is around 5000rs+- per day/night for 4 of us.

Again, appreciate all the help.

Hi there,

we are traveling to Kochin in January. As it seems to be a busy season, I'm not sure how much of booking ahead is important.
Does anybody knows a nice budget homestay in Kochin? How long does it take to get from Kochin to Ernakullam by ferry?Thanx a lot :)
