Ooty toy train landslides

Hello,

We already have tickets booked for Ooty toy train on 11th December. Have the landslides in the area stopped the train altogether?
If the line is blocked, is it passable by bus? And is it still pleasant to visit Ooty region in 3 weeks time?

Our original plan is 3 days in Ooty - 2 days in Mudumalai NP - on to Mysore, all by public transport. Is it now better to go to another area - we would have liked to go to Coorg region or Munnar. So would anyone recommend going there instead?

thanks for any help.

Hi,

I am planning to go to Cochin at the end of a 3 week holiday, before I fly back to Bangalore.

My idea was to spend 3 relaxing days at the beach after much travelling around.

Can anyone recommend an area to stay in, and perhaps a hotel/homestay?

The areas I was looking at were Fort Cochin and Cherai..

Thanks in advance for any help/recommendations.

Bangalore - Nagarhole - Cochin

Hi I have a few questions about my trip to India. After extensive reading on this site i still have some questions. I would be grateful if someone can help me out.

I am planning to fly in from Delhi to Bangalore on 4th of January. If i was to take an early morning plane, would i be able to land in Bangalore and get a car and driver to go to Nagarhole for the evening safari?

In Nagarhole I want to spend 2 nights. I understand that we go along a road from mysore, then pass the park gate, and drive a bit more before reaching a park centre - from where the safaris depart. I want to spend 2 nights in or near the park? If so how would i book it from overseas? Anyone know the costs associated? Karnataka forest website is not very helpful in this regard.

I then want to catch the train leaving from goa to cochin at an intermediate station like Cannanore. Is it possible to get from Nagarhole to Cannanore (or any other station with trains to cochin)

Would I be right in assuming that I will have to keep the car and driver, from Bangalore til Cannanore. Or would I be better off bidding him goodbye, and finding someone else from Nagarhole to Cannanore. Can someone give me rough cost for the car and driver?

There will be two of us, and I'm not too picky. Small car and basic accomodation will do.

Madikeri - Bangalore bus punctuality?

KSRTC lists the Volvo from Madikeri (airavath volvo) which leaves at 23-15 and arrives at Kempegowda at 4-45 the next morning. Any idea on whether the bus is usually on time, or delayed? I need to book a flight to Mumbai, for which i plan to take the BMTC Volvo from Kempegowda to the airport, immediately after arriving in Bangalore.

Would it be safe to book a flight at around 8-30, or would it be a good idea to have some more time-buffer? (I guess more buffer is alway good, but am planning for the more likely scenario)

Thanks,
Neeraj

Have flight booked to Cochin 8 December, returning 13 Jan. Plan to take only hand luggage and buy a bike in Cochin to see Kerala and Coorg.
Would getting to Coorg be hard going for a cyclist? Was hoping to do some trekking there, leaving bike in a guesthouse. Would I need hiking boots or would trainers do? If likely to be muddy, should probably bring boots, but trying to keep luggage down.
Any help appreciated. This will be my first visit to India.

Me and my wife are planning to drive from Goa to Mangalore via Batkal on a bike on our way to cochin.

However we are exploring the option to load the bike on to the train till Cochin and then resume our trip from there where in we intend to explore South Kerela.

I wanted to know whether the train ride from Mangalore - Cochin is good? as in scenic and worth the time spent.

Or will you suggest to continue by road to Kerela?

Also if anyone can comment on the road conditions between Goa and Mangalore which I'm planning to cover in 2 days taking a night halt at Batkal it would be very helpful

Thanks

In Karnataka, there are many places to see. Before I used to think that there is hardly anything see in Bangalore. But quite often I find new places as I started to travel different parts of the city. Before I used to go in a bus, where you can hardly see anything.

Lets make a list for people, so that they enjoy these beautiful places.

Even though this is my first post in this forum I have been a silient reader for long time, I have found this forum extremely useful, and many of my travels had been based on the threads here.

Now I would like your help

I am planning a full week trip to Nagarhole / Thirunelli. I would like suggestions on places to visit, and points of interest at these regions that I may be able to cover during this time.

Total 6 members, myself, my wife, my parents and two kids, 9 yrs and 3 yrs. Mode of travel will be my Tata Safari.

		18th Nov 09 Start from my home at Trivandrum, Stay at Calicut.
		19th Nov 09 early start from Calicut, reach Forest Rest house Nagarhole
		19th and 20th Night at FRH, Nagarhole
		20th Nov  start to Thirunelli
		20th and 21st Stay at Thirunelli Temple Guest House
		22nd Start from Thirunelli, break at Kadampuzha Temple Guest House.
                23rd Reach back home at TVM

What I would like from experts like *pmvelu*, is a list of activities possible at these destinations. Like places to visit, things to do. Visit Kabini ? Coorg ?

How about a visit to Muthanga WLS on the return journey?

Hi,

I am planning a 10 day trip to karnataka from chennai this week.
Kindly let me know the changes the following route n plan needs. Is this a good time to visit these places anyway?

[i came up with this plan surfing this forum, if its ridiculous kindly excuse :) ]

From chennai,

1) Belur/Halebid -> 2 days [covering Shravanabelagola] [Where do i stay btw? Belur or Halebid??]
2) Halebid -> Hampi [covering hampi in 4 days]
3) Hampi -> Badami [2 days]
4) Badami -> Bijapur [1 day]
5) Bijapur -> chennai ???? I am struck here!! its close to 900 kms and i m clueless how to cover it. no trains i suppose.

So, i guess this plan needs some modification like shuffling/dropping some. i am quite open to add/delete any of these except that Hampi is definitely on. I have 10 days. I wish to travel Hampi n around. So any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Madhu

1) Belur/Halebid -> 2 days [covering Shravanabelagola] [Where do i stay btw? Belur or Halebid??]
2) Halebid -> Hampi [covering hampi in 4 days]
3) Hampi -> Badami [2 days]
4) Badami -> Bijapur [1 day]
5) Bijapur -> chennai ???? I am struck here!! its close to 900 kms and i m clueless how to cover it. no trains i suppose.

So, i guess this plan needs some modification like shuffling/dropping some. i am quite open to add/delete any of these except that Hampi is definitely on. I have 10 days. I wish to travel Hampi n around. So any help is greatly appreciated.
