We had organised a private vehicle to take us on a day tour of Delhi on the Monday, but now realise that a lot of the tourist sites ( including the Red Fort which was to be the highlight ) will be closed. Can anyone suggest the best way to spend the day and give the kids an introduction to India ( this will be their first day of a five week holiday there ). Also, if I want to fly back to Delhi from the south - either Goa or Mumbai, is it fairly easy to book a flight online whilst in India? Any recommended airlines?

I'd thank you in name but I can't find my thread off hand (a combination of jetlag & dim-wittedness).

Nina is the best!!! It cost $75 a night for two of us. This is a real bargain.... I am against staying in the budget hotels of Paharganj from experience, and it is my philosophy that you should budget your trip so you can have a comfortable place to return after a day of running about. And Nina's place is perfect and safe and delightful.

We made arrangments five months in advance, and she helped us with all our plans. She helped us get into an exclussive event at the India International Center, at the Gymkhana, and VIP seats at a record launch, but also a 5 AM run to the veg market in Old Delhi as well as a trip to some country roadside dhaba to stuff ourselves with parathas (tandoori style, not fried!). And we just think the world of her, so we have now a friend too.

And we were with her for 12 nights. The same amount of time in a hotel, even one we love like Hotel Broadway, would have been so confining and lonely.
