Hampi to Kerala to Mumbai

Hello,

What's the best way to go from Hampi to Kerala? Is it via train or can you take a flight as well?

Also, I'm trying to figure out a way to go from Kerala to Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi. I would assume the best way to get to Mumbai and Delhi would be flights but what about Hyderabad? Also, where can you catch a flight from in Kerela?

By best, I'm just trying to save time. I'd rather take any trains at night.

Thanks in advance!

Dear All,

What an interesting forum and how helpful of all you good boys and girls, just too eager to help the mankind without any selfish motives - rare in today's world!

Well, I wonder if you could be so kind as to help me in this.

In January, from Mumbai We are travelling to Kodai Kanal (first) and later from there to Munnar and then back to Mumbai. Since we can't afford the flight tickets, we wish to travell by train. Checking on the web, I found so far that it's best bet to go to Coimbatore via Konkan railway (from Mumbai to Shoranur junction, and take another train from Shoranur to Coimbtore), stay at Coimbtore for a night and on the next morning head towards Kodai Kanal. After a 2 days stay there, head to Munnar and after staying for 3 days there, take a bus from Munnar to Ernakulam for taking a train back to Mumbai.

I want all you kind hearted and knowlegible gentlemen and ladies to review this plan of mine and advise if I need any alterations for its betterment.

I would really appreciate if you could please help me fine tune this. Especially since my sister is pregnant (and would be 5 mnths pregnant in January), we wish to keep the travelling as little hectic as possible - therefore most of the train and little of the bus/ hired vehicle.

Please advise.

Also, please advise, if we stay for one additional day at Coimbtore, can we also visit Ooty during the day and return back to Coimbtore at night? (so that we can keep our luggage at Coimbtore and travell Ooty light) Please suggest.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Hi we are travelling to Goa on the night train 0111 Konkan Kanya Ex - and was going to book on the 2 tier AC, however I realised that there is 1st class and wondered if that would be better with 3 & 5 year old girls - only it might take away the joy of the journey if we are in a cabin - though practicalities of it all make me wonder if it is not better.... has anyone any thoughts or experiences of travelling in either class with kids?

We have done the journey before a number of years ago now and well before children :)

THANKS

My question: Will it be better to book 3AC in winter to avoid the cold? Because the windows are always closed. Or do they use the AC to adapt to the outside temperature? :D

I don't know if IM Travel Experts & Advisors have already discovered and posted about this new travel Booking site on some thread? Its called *90 Degrees Internet*. This seems to be the most user-friendly travel booking portal I've ever seen.

Combines flight/train/bus ticket search, availability and booking in one shot. Very nice and easy-to-navigate web-pages. With my Google-Chrome Browser and MTNL-broadband connection it appears to be lightening fast :) - KS

New Payment System for Credit Cards: HELP!

I've spent DAYS trying to purchase a train ticket on irctc.co.in with my CITI credit cards. I saw that as of the first of August I need to get an IPIN from CITI for their new security measures, but when I follow the link to apply for one (https://www.citibank.co.in/ssjsps/ssindex.do) it says that I'm entering an invalid credit card number. After five tries, though, this isn't it. I'm wondering if the real problem is that it's asking for a 6 digit mailing pincode and in the States my zip code is only 5 digits.

Has anyone out there used a CITI credit card in the last few months to buy a ticket, especially an American card? I'm getting kind of desperate here. The American branch of CITI card can't help me and I can't call India with my phone (not that I could find a number on the website to call, anyway).

This has been so frustrating that I am now close to tears. I can't be the only person having a hard time with this, can I? [cry]

Hi. I have a tight train connection, only about 30-45 min, arriving at one location before the next train, my connection is due to arrive and depart. I'll be changing in Hubli. Have no idea about the station, but I'm on my way to Goa via VAS EXPRESS train 7311. That's a major train so maybe it corresponds to arriving trains at Hubli and waits for those.

The later trains are completely sold out and wait listed.

If my connection is late, what are the rules about trying to board the next train? And are refunds possible.

In my experience trains can and do run late. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

any ideas?
Thanks! :)
