We arrive in Delhi late Sunday night and leave for Agra early Tuesday morning. We had organised a private vehicle to take us on a day tour of Delhi on the Monday, but now realise that a lot of the tourist sites ( including the Red Fort which was to be the highlight ) will be closed. Can anyone suggest the best way to spend the day and give the kids an introduction to India ( this will be their first day of a five week holiday there ).

Hello,

I am in Jaipur right now and making my way to Jaisalmer and Bikaner and Im very pumped for a camel trek. Having never seen a desert before I would love to see some dunes although Ive read they are not like the big saharan ones.

Id prefer to do the camel trek in Bikaner where its a little less touristy than Jaisalmer but can dunes be seen on a 2-3 day trek?

Thanks in advance,

Hello,
I will be arriving in Bagdogra on the 22nd of Dec with 3 other travelers. We were hoping to use the helicopter service to travel to Gangtok. Is there any way to reserve this ahead of time? I attempted to email the address given by the Sikkim tourism development corp but have gotten no response at all. If I called them could I make a reservation?
Also, I was wondering if we will be missing a lot by taking a helicopter instead of a jeep. Is the drive a can't-miss experience? I would assume the views from the helicopter would be pretty amazing as well.
Finally, should we make reservations ahead of time for Gangtok and Darjeeling in late December? I know this is peak tourist season in most of India, but I would think it would be a bit slower in the cold mountains.

Thank you very much for any advice offered.

Hi,

We have a rough idea of how much money we need but dont really know how to carry it. what is the maximum you can take with you from the uk (flying with Air India)?

Is it worth taking a mixture of cash and travelers cheques or can we rely on using HSBC Maestro debit cards at ATMs when we get there? have been ripped off on exchange rates and fees when withdrawing from European atms previously but is India any different?

finally is it worth taking sterling with us and exchanging it locally? are we likely to get better rates locally then from from here in the uk?

apologies if i am covering old ground but your suggestions would be very useful

Thanks in advance.

What's the best way to go from Hampi to Kerala? Is it via train or can you take a flight as well?

Also, I'm trying to figure out a way to go from Kerala to Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi. I would assume the best way to get to Mumbai and Delhi would be flights but what about Hyderabad? Also, where can you catch a flight from in Kerela?

By best, I'm just trying to save time. I'd rather take any trains at night.

Thanks in advance!

My sri lankan friend went to India from Sri Lanka on a 3 or 6 moths tourist visa 6 years ago. He is a sri lankan national, tamil. He still living there, obviously over stayed his visa. He has registered with the police and have a letter from the police saying he has been living in that address for 6 years. Can he say he is a resident in India when applying for a UK settlement visa - on the visa application form. He explained the whole story of how and when he came to India, etc.

My question is what is the meaning of residence?

I know for tax purposes he is treated as a 'residence' there. but what about for immigration purposes?

Any advise is welcome. even if it is not useful!
