I realize that this question may have been posed before, but in all fairness, after scouring most threads, and some company websites, I'm still a bit confused. Here's my situation
: * I'm Going to Bombay/Goa in December 2009, for a month *I will be bringing along an hp dv2000 laptop * I will need internet as I have some research for school to do * I do not have a phone capable of getting internet, and I would still prefer to get it on my laptop * I will be staying with family in both places, both without wired internet access... I've looked into the TATA Indicom photon+ and the reliance netconnect, but I was wondering how I would get it, as i am a Canadian citizen. I also heard about the Airtel prepaid data card, but my laptop isn't equipped with a pcmcia card, only an express card....ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated! ![]() |

Please do what you can to stay away from TaTa Indicom. Once they have your money, they are very non-responsive to their customers. There are other companies out there so please do your research.

Tata Indicom Photon + and Reliance Broadband + both which are broadband connections doesn't work in Goa. I mean you will not get broadband speed, but will get normal dialup speed in Goa. You can check from the company website the list of cities where they provide broadband speed from there USB modem. Even in the cities where they claim that you will get broadband speed, you will hardly get any broadband speed. I have reliance net connect broabdband + and I am not happy with the speed I am getting nor with there customer service.
But, with the same instrument (USB modem)you will get the normal dialup speed if there are signal in the area (Goa or anywhere in India for that matter) you are staying and this will be very slow, but enough for checking mails...not for downloads. Its easy to get these USB modem connections and you need to provide address proof and you can get it in one day. My opinion is its not worth investing Rs 3500/- for a USB modem for one month usage. There must be lots of cafes in Goa where you might be able to use the wi fi. Hope this helps. |

Sorry to say but manzey practical experience in something much more than what is written. tata indicom Photon plus is available in Goa. even i have checked the website but i think they have not updated it. I am using the same connection and i am getting a speed of 2mbps download in calangute. I have also tried panaji and the results are same.
Its much easier to Mislead but it takes a lot to gain a practical experience and then state something that is worth. A screen shot of the Speedtest and IP can be provided if wished. HSIA is available in Goa (High speed Internet Access) over USB Dongle and tata indicom Photon Plus is providing it even reliance has the same facility in other cities but they havent launched in GOA. PS- i am posting this using the same broadband and it is pretty fast |

Secondly, I am not trying to mislead people...I don't get any benefit out of it. I am writing my experience and I don't know if writing ones experience is misleading people. Pls enlighten me If I am wrong. Its possible that you got excellent speed and it doesnt mean that people who haven't got good speed are trying to mislead people. I am talking about my experience with Relaince Broadband in Bangalore, Gurgaon and Mysore and other small places. Just google and see the number of complaints regarding Reliance Broadband and Tata Indicom Photon plus. By the way - why are you trying to prove the speed by giving screenshot and ip address ? I belive if you say that you are getting those speed. Are you by chance working for any of these telecom companies ? Cheers! |

Srry, I donot work for ny of the telecom companies and if you are not aware of something then you should first enquire of the facts behind it then post something . I wnted to communicate that just shooting in the dark will mislead many people who will not be benefitted by the facialities that are available. Bye the way tody i saw the banners of the photon plus all over calangute specially at the bus stands. So ,its officially launched. The main theme is if someone is needy then right information can solve his worries. so whoever is posting anything i urge them to post the authentic information. nothing personal with you. and about complaints, we all have complaints towrds something or the other and even sometime towards life. so i hope you understand this is just a part and parcel. the post was basically to give the idea of availability of mobile broadbnd. and till now i have faced no problem with that and i am keeping my fingers crossed. dasvidaniya |

I did not get good speed with Relaince broadband + (I use this product) or Photon in Bangalore and I am not supposed to mention it as this will mislead other people....as per you...I should just accept it as part and parcel. well....I got your point....you are right and I am wrong. Cheers! |
