I would like to repeat that NONE of the BARISTAs in Delhi have wireless (despite what some earlier posts say here).

In Khan Market, so far I have found only one place: Market Diner & Cafe next to Anokhi. Open till 10.30 pm. Minimum 200Rs purchase to use wireless but very good service and food.

Exclamation Wi-fi hotspots security alert!

I've not seen any mention of the risks of using a public Wi-fi hotspot in this thread yet...

Sure, public Wi-Fi hotspots are great. After all, what would life be without checking your email each morning at your favourite café?

But while you're enjoying your latte and a bagel (or chai and pakora), some hacker might be accessing your passwords, credit card numbers, sensitive company data and much more. And standard anti-virus software won't protect you.

Hotspot Shield is free security software which keeps your Internet connection secure at public hotspots, home or work. It creates a virtual private network (VPN) between your laptop and the wireless router. This impenetrable tunnel prevents snoopers and hackers from viewing your email, instant messages, credit card information or anything else you send over a wireless network. Which means you remain anonymous and protect your privacy.

Hotspot Shield is a free download, is easy to install and use, and you get 3GB of free bandwidth within a rolling 30 day window (quite enough for most travellers, I think). Additional bandwidth can be purchased thereafter.

Hotspot Shield runs on:
* Windows Vista
* Windows XP
* Windows 2000
* Mac OS X (10.5 Leopard)
* Mac OS X (10.4 Tiger)

Someone mentioned that Mysore is a wifi zone. Not true. I too read that email and opened my laptop to no avail. The press release was sent out before they realized that they simply can't make it work.

As for tracking all of these wifi spots, if someone wants to volunteer, the easiest route is to go to wikispaces.com and set up a wiki page, so we can all add and delete the listings over time. Somethings are better handled through wiki then bb.

If you have a portable device, such as a netbook or iPod Touch, you can check email anywhere that people don't know how to password protect their wifi. Which is pretty much everywhere it seems. While I wouldn't abuse it, I've never found a town in the UK where I couldn't get online if I wanted, just by taking a short walk and Delhi at least seems about the same.

Oops, did I really just say that?

I've seen the odd person with a laptop sitting outside the Prakash store up here in Landour - Sisters Bazaar. I guess he hasn't protected his wifi for his computers inside where you pay!

Re Oxford Book Store - I have a feeling it is no longer available. I forgot to ask when last there in April, but the couple of times I've been there in recent months, no one was working on their computer along the bench where they used to. Maybe one of our Delhi members could update this information?
