Which Mobile handset ?

I am looking to buy a mobile handset for below Rs.12,000. My target is more towards a business phone, rather than a fancy music OR camera phone. Since I am not in touch with the current trends I am looking for some suggestions..

Secondly, does anyone has any experience of using WiFi on Mobile in Delhi ? is it successful ?

Buy the mobile set after reading the technical and other review from the following site, very useful and informative:

Hi Shashank

so just out of interest - what did you decide on? I'm thinking its about time for a change too. I've got an HTC apache (UT Starcomm) - and I'm thinking an HTC touch looks pretty nice.

HTC touch didn't get nice reviews on Cnet...

btw..I was expecting you to respond much earlier...I guess I will for a Nokia E61i...seems to fit the bill...

However as of now researching on the net connection on the phone and whether a PDA device would be able to give me what I want..

been a bit busy - and also out of touch with the latest mobile developments.

I've been using PDA phones for the past 6 years now and really like the convenience of having email, calenda, music, etc - all in one device that has a bit of grunt. Thankfully they've also come down in size (the Apache I have is still pretty bulky in terms of width - but the height is more cell phone like). Plus - I need something a bit more robust as I have a tendency to break the smaller/ lighter phones.

Hmmmm....maybe I'll wait until the HTC touch plus comes out (its the one with the slide out keyboard). I've read a few reviews - and one guy in particular who is normally very savage said it was one of the few phones he didn't want to give back.....

Thats the prob...I have also lost touch for past few years...

Btw..which GPRS connection you use ?? I have POP mail, and I want to configure that on the device, as I get a lot of word attachments, I need to know if I can use the memory card as backup memory for the mail client in device.

Secondly the most important part, I want to synch my mails with MS Outlook, including all the attachments...

A good phone would be Sony Ericsson M600i and it should be within the budget

I'm not using mobile data here in India ( I was on EVDO back home which was giving me 3-400 kbits per sec minimum - great stuff). One of the key differences between GPRS and CDMA 1xRTT is that CDMA 1x is actual raw speed. So when you get 156k - you're getting true 156k. GPRS uses a couple of tricks to squeeze out every last bit of performance - (signal compression and network caching). In terms of output - there is very little difference between the two - but GPRS compression and caching can play havoc with some processes.

Configuring pop mail on a PDA is simple. All your doing is dailing up to the internet on the PDA - and once the connection is established the mail client will pop the server like a PC (and once the mail is downloaded - the PDA will close down the connection). Transferring attachments to an SD card is straight forward - but the configuration differs from device to device. Some PDAs by default will use the SD card as the main storage memory (a bit like digital cameras) - whereas some require you to manually move attachments onto the card. Not sure if you can specify where attachments are stored in the mail client?

Syncing with outlook - client or server? If its the client then setting it up is again, straight forward. Via USB, bluetooth, etc - no problems - but you will need to connect directly to the PC. If its the server - then you could dial up to the serve and sync via mobile (like you do with a pop account) - but you would need a connection to the server (a modem, or mobile data connection would do).

All this sounds good...

I am not aware about client-server logic. However I use MS Outlook in my computer which I have configured to download the mails from my POP service provider (Rediffmailpro)..

When I download mails to the PDA instead of my computer, I don't want the mails to be available on service provider server, as It creates a lot of mess because the sheer volume of mails I get.
Now I want that mails I have downloaded in my PDA can be transfered to my computer preferably through bluetooth...

I hope I have been able to explain it properly...

And I need to find a right kind of connection for the same !!

Its only an issue with some corporate setups. When you access email via mobile you are dialing directly into the server (as with pop mail). When you sync with a PC you have the option of either connecting directly to the server - or downloading from the client - but its only an option for PCs sitting on a LAN connected directly to the server.

ok...got it. I think the way to do this would be:
1) configure your email client to retrieve all mail, and ensure the option to leave a copy on the server is unchecked,
2) when you load the sync software onto both the PC and the PDA there will be an option about which device has priority when there are changes. Check the option which says PDA takes precedence (hence email on the PDA will remain, while the sync process will copy them onto the PC).
3) As for the connection - just ensure you specify bluetooth as the network for the sync process.

I think that's about it.
