VCDs usually play on Windows Media Player. I realize you have a Mac, and I don't know what the state of the player is for you . . .

.. it's an extention to Quicktime Player... so you're meant to be able to 'play' VCD's with QTP..

It's a Mac application.. but it just don't work.. almost feels like it 'wants to', but just cuts out at the end.

Now, admitedly, I'm using it on some p*&rate Indian VCD's, but I got one of these to work on another program ( albeit intermitantly ).. So I don't think it's the discs.. but then again.. ?

Suggest you try them in a PC and/or DVD player somewhere just to make sure they work. The you can figure out which software is best for your Mac.

The VCD format is popular because it's easy to play and easy to pirate. An expensive DVD can be spun out as three VCDs and sold for a few rupees. Bootlegged compilations of movie songs from dozens of master DVDs (or commerically made VCDs) are popular. There are also such things as VCD players you can by. I saw one made by "Panasoanic" [sic] aboard an Indian dhow in the UAE.

This is all to say, it shouldn't be hard to get the things to work--if they work at all. Good luck!

Mac superiority complexes are a natural result of the pleasant and reliable user experience that derive from working with its well designed interface. No need to apologize for that.

I use VideoLAN Controller, which you can get HERE

It plays my Indian VCDs very reliably.

Thanks, iyou! -- I wasn't even aware that anything extra was required to play VCDs.
