Using non-operator free mobile picture mail with prepaid SIM
I'm planning a trip to India and I'll be taking
my Nokia 6630 on this trip for sending pictures from the cellphone back home. I've been using the mailbymobile service from the www.mailbuymobile.com without charge except the GPRS fee that I'm paying to the operator monthly (here in Bangkok, 3USD$ for up to 40MB per month) I'll get a prepaid SIM in India with GPRS/EDGE service and send pictures back, assuming that this setup will be much cheaper than roaming charges. Would there be any complications with this plan? Thanks for advice in advance. |

Make sure the service provider you use provides MMS service in the locations you will be visiting - that's the only way pictures can be sent.
You can try looking up the Airtel and Hutch websites - they have, in my experience sofar, the best EDGE services and very good coverage. |

be either paid by KBytes or by connection time, instead of being charged per MMS. My choice of upload service is free, but I know I have to pay for some WAP connection service. Is WAP service available for pre-paid SIM (if I can get one as tourist?) in India? Over here (Bangkok, Thailand) I've just got a new WAP package for 100Bahts ($3USD) per month up to 20hrs connection time from one of the 3 local operators. I've been sending many pictures (via the www.mailbymobile.com free picture upload + e-mail service) daily with such combination, many e-mails, directly and immediately from my cellphone. Pay by connection time is more practical than pay by kbytes if you have a lot to upload/send. For me, every time I'd take a few pictures, get on WAP, go to the free upload/e-mail service, and send out the pictures with e-mails, then disconnect (exit) the WAP connection. It takes less than five minutes each round, my oversea liaisons get to see my text message plus pictures with e-mail immediately. My monthly 20hrs WAP package roughly allows me send out 8 e-mails + 24 pictures PER DAY (up to 3 pictures per e-mail attachment). For me, it's a new found good deal as compared to MMS. Of course this is a store-and-forward e-mail instead of direct-to-phone MMS, but then e-mail can be 1-to-N, cost, etc... It all comes down to the usag, purpose, and cost consideration... Sorry, I've drifted... If I can get such WAP deal in India, and use the mailbymobile service, I'll be sending home tens of pictures + e-mails with $0.1USD a day... Is this possible in India? Thanks in advance for kind advice. |
