Buy the stuff here. It is easier once you know where and you don't have to haul it all back and forth while having converters everyplace. I find most things are cheep both in price and quality but do the job. Myself and others here I am sure will give you names of places to purchase things. I did most of it on my own at first but once I got going I had help from every direction. I am not sure if it is because I am white or they do it for everybody but pretty much every shop I went to I was taken around personally, my stuff was carried, they found things i was looking for, filled out my warenty cards. Heck even one large place took a snap with managment. Not sure why.
Here as they said eailer everything is serviced by that company. Its not like you call you house agent and it gets taken care of. If your frig is Samsun as Samsun person comes out. I have a whole slew of shops based on what you are looking for here, just let me know when you will be in Chennai and I can help you with that. From very nice to just everyday. From what your usto tho everyday on some stuff is sort of like Wallmart discounted stuff and going thru some shops it more like a thrift store. But it all works and you can find just the right thing. You will want a driver full time for the first month but after that i don't seem to need to go out everyday now that I am settled. My place is loacted just North of where your looking and in Besant Nagar. We aren't that close to the city but it is quieter down this way. |

Besant Nagar is considered reasonably close --- and a very nice area to be living in
![]() It is customary to be set on by a 'personal shopper' or two. I found this very disconcerting at first, as I am an incorrigible browser, and really disliked having someone standing over me all the time. Now I just enjoy and end up with girlfriends in every shop ![]() I do also find it rather strange that, with the white goods stuff, they send a company man out to install and demonstrate. This I have actively refused once or twice, considering myself pretty-much expert in the use of a fridge! Then they telephone a few times to ask if they can come, and find it hard to believe you don't want them!

, but I figured I'd let him becos they do their own paperwork for co. records, and u never know if the dealer sent it in and tomorrow if something goes wrong, I don't want them to spend one month just trying to track down and/or complete the paper-work, etc, etc. Espesh in these impersonal computer-savvy times, when cos. cannot seem to function or recognise your existence until they have the customer "computerised". When the man came around, I realised another reason why they want to, maybe the main reason. He was very keen to sell us an all-up, all-u-can-eat, bells-and-whistles-included, AMC! "So sir, if u take the 1-year contract now, it will cost X rupees, if u take the 2-year contract now, it will cost Y rupees. If u do this after a year when the guarantee expires, u will have to pay 1000 rupees more, or 1500 rupees more, respectively (or words to that effect). And u have only 30 days to decide". Of course, he indicated he wud rather do this on the spot. I said thank u, I'll think about it, don't call me, I'll call u, etc. In almost a decade the old one never required a part or had a problem, except that the chimer stopped working a year ago, but I figured we cud survive without that! Of course, they DID call, last week. ![]() I figure they want to do something similar re your fridge. "Sir, if the light-bulb burns out, our man will personally screw in a new one, heavy-duty, white - to match the colour of your fridge, specially imported from Sweden/Italy/Taiwan (it'll be Chinese, of course). And if u don't take this contract now, it'll cost u 500 rupees extra to replace the bulb after the guarantee runs out." ![]() |
