Transferring Money via the Internet

I want to transfer money to a friend in India, but I have no idea how to.

I have the details given to me, but I want to use my NetBank account to send, and it need the account name and account number which I have, but I also need the BSB number.

What's a BIC Number and Swift Number? Are they what we call BSB's?

Any help... I'm looking at the accountants here.

SWIFT is just a unique identification number of a particular Branch of a Bank in India.

BSB is a similar number for Australia.

BIC must be (not sure) similar for elsewhere in the world.

(the US has ABA I think)

The friend you have to send money to (in India) needs to check and tell you his banks SWIFT number, name of the bank and postal address. No other details are neccessary, including BIC and BSB numbers (which would apply elsewhere in the world).

For a wire transfer, that is all which is required.
