Touch ipod as telephone in India..

Where can I obtain the adapter (or a headphone and mic) in India to make the new 32 Touch Ipod work as a telephone in India. Folks have made these wortk in the UK and USA, but in India?

The software is easy to obtain, but the hardware is elusive (to me). Thanks.

you are talking about touch Ipod or Iphone. I cannot imagine Ipod working as a phone.

i think he means getting the ipod touch to work as a phone. least thats what i understood.

tmac100 when you say telephone do you mean a wired phone connected to the pstn network? cause without the radio circuitry youre never gonna get a signal out of it.... can you post a link to what ever is available in the us or uk?

touch ipod

Yes, I mean using the 2nd generation touch Ipod as a wireless telephone. It HAS wifi capability!

Truphone is the software package that allows this to happen. It is available on the Apple apps store. I have it - downloaded and installed into the touch ipod. Now to find the microphone! Tghis was why I posted the note yesterday. I cannot find one source in India. I have just found that Truphone sells it for 10 GBP in England where I will be this August. So my question has been answered.

There are You-Tube videos and try the following google searches: "ipod touch as telephone" or "apple touch ipod as phone". These searches give lots of redundant information ;-)

I think I went to "www.truphone.co.uk" and found their microphone adapter. Truphone lets you contact landline telephones which is why I use skype when calling from offshore on my computer. Now that I have a posh Touch Ipod I want to try it's wireless capabilities out. My 32 Gb Touch Ipod cost me $389 (CDN)at Costco in Canada PLUS taxes.

I hope this is useful information. :-)

so this would still require you to have a wifi base station that is connected to the internet (of course being able to use it in free to use wifi hotspots is also an added advantage) .... this would essentially act like a wireless skype phone in your home... except without skype itself...

checked out the adapter. and all i can say is that its just a standard mic connected to a 3.5 mm stereo jack. a hands free from any phone that connects via a 3.5 mm jack should work. some phones use a 2.5 mm jack which is less common you can even use their hands free units with a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter that costs a few dollars.

just try to find a hands free solution that connects using a 3.5 mm jack and it should work.

or im sure you can use something like this as well...

http://www.amazon.com/Stereo-Hands-f.../dp/B000YE35I6

which is exactly what the site you posted talks about as well. a 3.5 mm jack connected to a mic with another 3.5 mm inline jack for a head phone (ear buds or call em what ever you will).

im sure you can pick up something on the streets cheap and test it right there with the recording app to see if it works...

----------

reason that no one sells em branded this way is cause i guess the market is limited in india. its not a very specialized device though.
