Exactly manoj, that's how I feel. They are just so rude! They shouldn't simply get away with crap like that. But then, having all this hassle (lawyers, court etc) for such a small amount is also too much. I;m too busy anyway ...

@ISN, Nick - oh, ok! I forgot about that! It's a (still very small) German Animal Welfare forum I moderate.

This phone line is solely used for connecting to the Internet, there is no handset attached to it. I only pay the basic charges, I obviously never have any calls/units to pay. (I pay for the Internet usage with a seperate bill.) Still, last week phone calls appeared on my bill, amounting to over 200 units and about 250Rs.

I assumed that one of their technicians plugged himself in at the box on the street and enjoyed some free calls to friends. The numbers were listed so I called a couple of them - they were all coin phones in a village where I don't know anybody.

So I called the customer service line and filed a complaint. I was told they will get in touch, which they didn't. So I just called them again and was told that my complaint is "invalid" and that I have to pay the calls I made. I tried to explain that I never made those calls but this guy wouldn't believe me, implying that I'm lying.

I'm so angry right now! They have such a bad service, this is not the first grieve I have with them!

The other day I met the technician for the Internet connection and he said they have now put broadband cables underground and soon I can connect to that again and don't need the phone line anymore.

I can't wait!

Such morons!

What are your experiences with Tata Indicom?
I have a Tata Indicom phone. Every six months the phone goes dead and they dont have a toll free helpline like MTNL. When i tried to lodge a complaint from a Tata indicom pco, I kept getting the message, please dial a tata indicom telephone number.and i ended up spending over 30 rupees and could not lodge a complaint either. Another time my handset battery was getting discharged within minutes. When I complained, I was asked to give the handset to an LG sales and service outfit and they asked me to pay 800 ruppes for a new handset. When I told tata indicom about it, they sent a mechanic who replaced the bettery free of charge. Then why ask me to go to LG in the first place?

It looks like someone has illegally tapped your connection and not the technician.

They usually do that to get you off the line. Ask for a complaint number as confrimation that the complaint has been taken.Take down the name of the customer service rep .

Always done in telecom billing departments. Ask to speak to the manager . Always make a note of the time you called the customer service center .send an email to Write to us at customerservice at vsnl.co.in with the details .
Remember the service rep is doing what he is told. And only when the customer is really insistant will they really investigate. Ask him should i place a police complaint for the illegal tapping of my phone line? That should wake them up.

When they get rude .You need to ask for their manager . That will get them real nice real fast. Also keep making a note of everything. The time you called .Have all your bills with you when you call.

Goto the billing center
Pune
Marisfot III, Marigold Premises, Kalyani Nagar, Pune-411014.
And talk to them personally.

The best is to get the unlimited services
Power On & On 6-128

Usually the cable operator supplies internet service also dunno how it is in pune though .

I did that. Didn't help me either.

About a month ago I had a Tata technician here and told him about the tapping of my phone. He wasn't surprised, he admitted that this happens.

I did that too. The guy on the phone just said 'Ok' and ended the call. They don't care at all.

This too I asked. They simply refused to get any manager on the phone for me.

So far it hasn't happened again (that my phone got tapped).

I'm always so busy that I keep postponing changing the provider, although I would really like to. But work is pressing, I need my connection every day and don'ytwant to risk being without one for too long.

Tata Indicom broadband guys made me go on my knees and beg them with tears in my eyes to rectify my internet connection without avail. I went without internet for two months despite having an ADSL line from them. Then I opted for Airtel.

Before doing that, I decided to have some fun with TATA. So I called the sales team of TATA and asked them for broadband service. The poor blokes took 20 days to return my call stating that they had conducted a "feasibility study" and are ready to provide me with a connection. In the mean time, Airtel apprached me and provided me with a broadband in 4 days flat! I asked the TATA sales guys to meet me at my home. They came promptly the next day to install a broadband connection. I asked them how could they not realise that I am their exisitng customer while conducting the feasibility study and why it took 15 days to conduct the study for an exisiting customer. Then I handed them the router and the wiring and said "Thanks for coming, now please get out!"

They were visibly upset by this practical joke. That was my pound of flesh.

By the way...I have been having Airtel for the past year. Downtime: 0 min!

I feel to add one thing: that guy who always comes and repairs the line and my modem and settings and whatever is needed is really nice!

And apparently they have increased the number of customer service call center people - last time I called someone picked up right away, no waiting.

Yes I agree Indicom Customer Care is not good not professional.
But I have/still having problems with BSNL. Compared to Tata or BSNL, Airtel seems to provide the best customer service at least till now.

I ve never been charged for the endless wait till someone answers your call.

But in terms of network and coverage Indicom is way better atleast wherever I've used it.

As per TRAI's (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) guidelines all telecom service providers have to provide information about nodal officers for customer grievances.
For Tata Indicom it is available on this site.

Please log your complaint at your local Customer Service Centre (121) from any Tata Indicom post-paid phone or on (12524) from a Tata Indicom prepaid phone or visit our website www.tataindicom.com.

In case you are not satisfied with the response of the Customer Service Centre, please feel free to contact the Nodal Officer of your Circle mentioned below with your complaint reference number and details of the complaint / grievance during working hours (9:30 am to 6 pm) Monday to Friday.

The Nodal Officer will revert to you through your preferred mode of contact, with a resolution / response within 10 days of the registration of the complaint.
http://www.tataindicom.com/t-custome...complaint.aspx

I hope the information helps..

Regards,
IceMan

I complained to the Nodal Officer for Karnataka, but did not get any response for a month. I then escalated to the Appellate Authority in Mumbai (whose email address wasn't on the site, so I sent everything by snail mail), and the response was VERY quick. An acknowledgment that I was billed in error and a cheque for the excess amount arrived on the 4th or 5th day after I had sent the complaint. Looks like you have to go REALLY high up to get any kind of service.

I use Tata Indicom "broadband" and my experience has ranged from mediocre to hellishly bad with the last few weeks being very much the latter.

There is no toll-free line which is highly annoying since you sometimes have to wait ten minutes to get someone to help you. The quality of customer service is quite poor anyway.

Overall I wouldn't recommend TI if you are thinking of getting a new connection . MTNL is supposed to be more reliable but I don't like their plans so I may stick around with TI for some time more. If you can get BSNL that is probably the best option and Airtel is probably OK too.

we use MTNL for landline/broadband and tata for mobile phones/ mobile broadband. The mobile works fine (the mobile broadband works surprisingly well) - but what a saga to get connected. At one point tata wanted copies of our IDs, passports, resident visa, and lease agreement. Then when we provided that, they wanted a copy of our landlords ID! At that point a very strident Indian friend intervened and suddenly they didn't need the landlords ID after all. That was 3 months ago. Still waiting for them to enable the mailbox and international tolls. In the meantime I'm using Jajah to bypass the toll bar they've put in place - and paying max 9 cents a minute to make international phone calls from the mobile.
