Take or buy a laptop?
I'm not sure I really want to take my laptop with me (and work) and so if I don't take it, can I purchase a Mac laptop (ie: Powerbook 15 or 17 inch) in India? If I can, will it be less or more expensive there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BTW IndiaMike is simply outstanding for a guy like me who has NO IDEA what to expect. Thanks to you all - I love you guys. |

I can assure you that unless it is absolutely fundamentally necessary, you don't want to carry a laptop around India.
There's an internet cafe on every corner so you can email home. |

stuff there is much more expensive.. A $300 iPod costs about $500 in India. Irts the customs duties.. take one with you and you might be able to sell it for a profit when you leave.

If you are relocating to india, I suggest you bring you mac with you. But if you are only concerned about connectivity while on the move in India, net cafes should do.
Normally the entry level laptops (IBM clones) are cheaper in india than the western market but high level models would be cheaper outside india (mainly in the asia belt). Mac is a definitly more expensive with limited model range in India.

I am of the view that.. 1.You bring your LAPTOP if you are on long and very relaxed trip to India. 2. Still-there are cybercaffe in almost every town and should be found easily at places you will visit. 3. Handling, caring and most important dependency on availability of electricity plu around you when you travel-is going to be tough job. Better-use cybercafee ! |

What kinds of things do you need to do? Laptops scream "Steal Me," IMO. Would a Palm Pilot do?
