Suggestions for buying a digital camera
Hello
all Indiamikers I have been using a Nikon F2 for a couple of decades. The time has come to switch to new technology and I would welcome any suggestions from experienced digital camera users as to what brand/model best meets these characteristics: Price around $A1,000.00 4 - 5 Megapixels 6 - 8 Optical Zoom Ability to connect to external flashgun (hotshoe) Moveable LCD Screen Lithium batteries SD card Modes: Movie with ability to select individual frames Portrait Landscape Sports Night Beach/Snow Sunset Dawn/Dusk Fireworks Panorama Backlight All suggestions welcome and many thanks for your help. ![]() |

Looks like you are a bit of photo geek
![]() I've bought a Sony DSC as it is a no nonsense straightforward camera for general use. +ves 1.Its not very big, so i could carry it in my pant's pocket. 2.I gave sufficient pix for a non pro application 3.the battery is standard size & not builtin. means I could buy a couple of extrabattery charged and use when the one in camera became week. No need to tiedown the camera with the charder like a cellphone. 4.There was cool review about this model&range by other users. The sample images looked pretty cool. 5.I did not want a telescopic lense camera. I'm careless (absent minded) and was sure that I would spoil such delicate mechanisms. -ves 1.Slightly heavy as compared to the latest sleek models 2.Memort stick is a bit expensive.Standard comes with 16mb, you needs to buy more to enjoy the shooting. I'm savage in photography and want to use digital camera like AK47, means more memory sticks. 3.Zoom is a bit less and photos are not all that great when shot at the max zoom |

You can make comparisons here and maybe narrow it down a bit, although they're not Oz

You should consider a Nikon D100 or D70. If you find them to big you can consider the new 8 Mega Pix Nikon. I am not sure about the model number.
I did move from an F5 to a smaller compact Digi Cam but after a week I gave it away and bought a D100. I could not stand the crappy quality of the low end models. Good Luck Bill

Digital Camera
Many thanks to all the Indiamikers who replied to my call for help. I am thinking of the Canon G6. Anyone had any experience with it? Any advice? ![]() |

i am using a canon s60 5mp(will run you round $400 on ebay these days)
small enough in a pocket, has a 28mm wide angle lens (the most important feature for me) and i got a 1 gb flash card and a underwater case for the hell of it... it comes with all the modes mentioned by Peter/Chris Witton and a lot more, wth custom settings... only thing i don't like is it uses canon battery (but i am bringing 4 extra) and the lid in the front if flimsy... otherwise it's a great little camera with huge power for the $$$. will

There is an excellent Fuji that will give 12 Mp I believe, it also provides RAW and the pricing is excellent. The main thing is that I have found with a 5.3 Mp is that as most digitals only provide a resolution of 72 one have to take a very large pixel sized photo to get a decent quality at the larger printing size. At 5.3 Mp, I scrape in at 8x10 at a resolution of 200 after beginning with 2560x1920 at res 72. So consider the final out put as well.
