Storing digital photos?

Hi Everyone, I would like to ask a simple question please. I have a Canon digital camera and would like to know how I can best store my photos once my 2gb card is full,as I'm staying in India for two months and take lots of pics? Is there a way to do this, so that I can wipe and use the card again? I did check the forum but am a little in the dark. Thank you.

In all the bigger places there are photoshops where you can burn the photo's on CD, they charge about 50 rs.

But make sure that

(a) they don't delete the images on the memory card as part of the copying process (i.e. make sure they copy them rather than transfer them.)
(b) you don't delete the images yourself until you've tried the CD in another computer (in an internet cafe or something) to make sure it can be read
(c) you get a second copy of the CD so you can send one home and keep one with you.

Dear, try burning CD in your hotel and also upload your fotos in some online web album like picasa etc. Dont depend on CDs alone rather get large USB drive or palm drive.

I have one of these: Wolverine FlashPac, 60 GB Portable Storage Drive & 7-in-1 Media Card Reader

They are running around $140 USD. Mine has been working flawlessly with frequent use for two years now. It has a rechargeable battery that will transfer about 6 gigs of cards between charges. You can also purchase a AA battery adapter if you think you'll be away from power for long periods of time.

There are spendier, fancier models out there but this one has done the job just as well.

Best available options

Connect to internet and upload your photos at

www.flickr.com
and
http://picasaweb.google.com

once you upload there.. Grab a DVD of Moserbear and burn the DVD with your photos.

After that take the card to a PhotoStudio closeby and get selected photos printed.

After this ..just clear your card.

Thus you will have required photos in print, everything Online and also in DVD

What's the availablility of USB ports in web cafes? If I bring my camera's hookup or a card reader, will I be able to transfer files to flickr (or even do a bit of photo blogging) that way?

Two caveats : uploading uncompressed images will be hard or impossible in many locations due to the slooow connections - this is why for example there is a low graphics version of Indiamike.

If you are going to Ladakh , Sikkim or other high areas , remember not to operate them above 4000 meters since they very often crash at these altitudes (warranty says 3000 meters ), and bring enough memory to bring you over the high areas.

Memory card prices have been in free fall for a while now , getting at least a second card will give you freedom at a low price to enjoy your trip instead of chasing net wallahs.

I´ve just returned from Spiti and Nepal , a two month trip , and this time I just brought more cards instead of the HD thingy, and burned two DVD´s along the way. I also brought my own DVD´s , packed in CD mailers. Bring a good case for CD´s , and the best protection you can find for the portable HD - Otterbox would be my first choice.

I blogged this time too (vistet.blogspot.com) , finding USB ports is not any serious issue but this year it was harder to find ´puters with Photoshop or other editing software. In Kaza I uploaded and used Irfanview , basic editing with small footprint and freeware to boot.
