Sony CyberShot USB cable question

Okay, I just got home from Nepal *sigh* and want to upload my photos to my PC so I can take pics of the items I bought to sell on eBay so I can start saving for my next trip... The problem is I seem to have misplaced my USB cable - I tore up my apt. looking for it and it's nowhere to be found. So, looks like I need to buy a new one. I am wondering if I can run to my local Circuit City and buy a standard cable or if I need to order it from Sony - the specs on the Sony cable say it has 'type A to type B connectors' and the Circuit City one specs say the same - I hope I don't have to wait for Sony to mail it to me, was hoping to do a massive eBay-a-thon this long 4th of July weekend and can't buy it until Thursday(payday! )

I use a Panasonic Lumix and I recently had trouble with my USB, I called them and they're shipping one under warranty but the dude told me that they're all the same so.........

Bring the camera with you to CC, post yer pics when you get them and start writing your journal, I believe it's mandatory

Its a standard cable - should be easily available from a variety of sources.

As far as I've ever seen Sony use the standard USB cable. I don't think it is 'A' to 'B' --- I thk that is the square connector that printers use.

But any cable supplier should be able to supply if you tell what it is for.

I'm up to my neck in them: everything seems to come with one!

Well, there are two types of USB cables. Both have the flat end that goes into the computer. But one has a square end for the device (like a printer), and the other an even smaller end for a camera--you want the smaller one.

yogesh,
I thought about that but don't know if there's one out there that works with memory sticks? If such a gizmo exists it would be derai derai raamro(don't mind me, still stuck on the limited Nepali I know, almost said 'thik cha' to a Korean deli guy the other day when he handed me my change ...)

I have Sony (as well) and yes , there are a lot of card readers that take memory sticks, often in multi card readers. On my desktop I use a USB card reader, on my powerbook I have a pc card reader - works ramro.

I was able to use the same cable that I use for my Mp3 player so I assume it is a pretty standard cable.

Gargi memory stick should work with majority of multi card readers available in the market. Don’t know how much they cost in US, but in India you can easily get 19in1 card reader for Rs.300 or less! Still do check the specification of the card reader, to insure it can read the type of memory stick you are using (there are several types of memory sticks).
