Sending photos to India

I suspect this has already been asked and answered but I serached through the posts I coukldn't find the answer.

If I wish to send some photos that I took on our recent trip to India to some friends in India (from the US) what is the best way to do it? Print the photos and send them by regular mail?? Is there a service that I can upload fotos and have them print them and send them to my friends. If so is this a reliable service? cost? Is it safe use a credit card?

Thanks so much
Larry

I had no problems mailing pictures to India from the US. Just make sure they are placed in a relatively sturdy package like a cardboard envelope.

I have e-mailed photos without a problem to some Indian friends with computer access. However for those without such access, I am looking for a way to have them receive a hard copy actual photos-either directly from me by regular mail or through an Indian service such a Kodak's Ofoto that will print and mail the photos.

Thanks ,
Larry

No problems from my end either. I have sent photos on several occassions.

Even to some obscure addresses

Lightbulb Snail Mail

I send, on a regular basis, photos to my family In India. Don't recall ever having problems. Use a good envelop and have your friends there let you know when they do receive them.

I still use a real old tradition of Indian mail. On the envelop I write: Photos- Please Do Not Bend.

Not sure if that is really necessary anymore but old traditions are hard to break at times. Use a cardboard piece to avoid bending.

Your friends will enjoy the photos you send. Develop them here and no real need to have them developed in India. This way you can also personalize the photos you send to various people...

That Reminds Me...

Of the envelope someone received bearing a sticker: Photos: Do Not Bend

Underneath someone had written... "Oh yes they do!"

When I was working for a publisher years ago we received, one day, a parcel containing artwork. It was covered in the usual Fragile labels. Right in the middle was a muddy imprint of a large boot!

The artwork was fine: the boot print must have been placed there very carefully

If you are in the US, USPS sells something called a Photo Mailer. It is a cardboard envelope, with this legend printed on it. Cost me a dollar about 2 years back.

I have used http://www.kodakexpress.co.in/ a few times. You upload your pictures and they print and send them out. They are based in India.

As an alternative why not put the pictures on a VCD. Nearly every Tom Dick and Hardip in India has a VCD player. There are a few software packages that do this including Nero. I use Pro Show Gold which makes a very nice photo VCD.

Thanks shere for the heads-up on Kodak, did not know that!

You could also check Photojagat.com. I have tried it out just once over a year ago, and the photos were never delivered, but once I complained about this they have credited back the money back to my account for future purchases. Have never had a chance to use them again and I hope that the credit still shows in my account. Will upload some pictures and try again and post here..

On April 26 I uploaded photos to kodak's site and ordered prints delivered to friends in India.

Today is May 5 and they still haven't arrived. I hope this is just slow service and that they will eventually get delivered.

Drop them an email and complain . They are usually quick to respond to emails.

wait for a day or 2. I guess they take around 2 weeks to deliver the post.
Good luck.
