Renting a cell phone or buying a cheap used one?
I am hoping to rent a cell phone or buy a cheap used one in Bombay. Does anyone know of any shops where I could do this? Do you know how much it would cost?
Also, any recommendations for a SIM card? I will be in Bombay for a couple days, followed by a few days in Pune, and then down to Kerala for a week. I plan on using the phone only for calls within India (and in fact will probably rely on SMS for most everything.) Thanks very much! Seth |

Cell phones are cheap in India. A new one could come as cheap as Rs 1500 with a year's incoming calls free and some carriers give a limited outgoing calls too. Or you can buy a used one if you want. There are many shops around in all cities and town where you can buy phones. Just ask someone. But getting mobile SIM connection would require a photo id and some residency proof. If you have any friend here then he could take the connection in his name. You can get prepaid connections immediately if you have the id.
