Pre-Paid Sim Card - Iphone Internet/3G

Hey Guys,

Done a few searches but nothing really answers all my questions

So;

1 - I have an Unlocked Iphone 3G and would like to purchase a simcard in india, spending most my time in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, but will buy it in Hyderabad. Which one is best?

2 - What are the rates for 3G internet access on the iphone? is there an ideal package? would like to be able to check india mike whilst traveling

Cheers in Advance
Josh

Josh 3G is not so common in India

We only have 1 or 2 providers.

you can also take a non 3G conmection and still use the internet with a slower speed of course.

Will post info here a little bit later

Cheerio !

It is not correct to say "3G is not so common in India".

Currently spectrum allocation has not been completed for private operators, but the government operators MTNL (Mumbai and Delhi) and BSNL (rest of India) already provide 3G services.

BSNL

MTNL

The 3G network may not be available in deeper countryside (I hope auto switch to GSM network happens).

3G and GSM are not mutually exclusive.

In India phones are always UNLOCKED. So you can use a pre-paid SIM if you like.

If you are carrying a GSM/UMTS dual mode phone, set network selection to auto. Network switchover is seamless, however smooth call handover between 2G/2.5G to 3G and vice-versa is not guaranteed.

You can buy BSNL 3G Sim but you may not get 3G speeds in all the places. Check out thier website http://bsnl.in/service/3G/3GHomepage.htm for areas covered. Also you can buy any of sim cards from airtel, vodafone, idea, Relaince GSM.
Reliance is offering the cheapest airtime rates.

Hi there! I'm a newbie and has the same question. Do you think I can tether my iPhone using a BSNL 3G Sim? I'll also be staying at the Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal in Kottakkal, Malappuram. Do you guys think that the hospital is included in the BSNL coverage? Would most certainly appreciate all your replies. Thanks.
