Power compatibility for laptop

Hi,
Is it safe to use the US-India power converter when using a US-compatible laptop? The reason I ask is that that the Samsonite US-UK converter blew out the highest setting on my wife's hair dryer, while in England. I'm presuming the voltage was converted correctly, but the amps were too high. Has anyone encountered any such problems with the US-India converters (needless to say, laptops are a lot more expensive than hair dryers)?
Thanks in advance!

What is the voltage rating of your laptop's power supply?

I have just checked my laptops and they are "110v - 240v" so they will work world-wide.

Most UK/European supplied Laptops are dual-voltage, is this true in the US?

If the Power Rating (Wattage) of the Converter/Adaptor is greater than that of the Laptop then you should be OK.

Mac Probook

I had my Mac Probook (purchased in the States) with me in Varanasi last year for six months and had no problems. As the second poster pointed out, if you're book is rated 110 - 220/240 you're in good shape. Do check all your electronics though; my power strip was only rated for 110 and it got fried, as did a nice speaker for my iPod. Not all electronics sold in the States can handle 220/240.

I have yet to see a laptop that was not multi voltage, does not mean there isn't one, check before plugging it in.
