Updated versions of cafeKlysm available:

cafeKlysm "Typhoon" (full version) updated to 1.2.6
cafeKlysm "Breeze" (basic version) updated to 1.1.14

What's changed?

Thunderbird Portable was updated to version 2.0.0.22;
Keepass Portable was updated to version 1.16

Keepass now has an option to delete each TAN entry immediately after you use it. With Windows Vista and Windows 7 the encryption process can utilise the system's built-in key transformations, which increases security - already extremely high - by a factor of 1.5. This is an important update to KeePass if you are using Windows 7 or Vista.

The long-awaited update to Firefox takes this browser to a new level. Salient features include an upgrade of the Javascripting engine: Firefox 3.5 is more than two times faster than Firefox 3. You'll also find features designed to protect your privacy online and provide greater control over your personal data. Additionally, Firefox 3.5 has better embedded multimedia capability without the need for any plugins. This is an important update to Firefox!

Updated versions of cafeKlysm available:

cafeKlysm "Typhoon" (full version) updated to 1.2.10
cafeKlysm "Breeze" (basic version) updated to 1.1.18

What's changed?

Pidgin Portable was updated to version 3.6.1 (full version only)
Neo's SafeKeys was updated to version 2.3.0 (both versions);

-
Pidgin 3.6.1 fixes a critical security issue in libpurple, a bug which prevented login to the Yahoo! network, an issue that resulted in duplicates of buddies and various other bugs and fixes

The new SafeKeys offers two additional ways to input your password using your mouse. In addition to the previous, click-with-cursor method, you can either simply hover the mouse cursor over a character, or hover a reduced size/contrast cursor, to select the key. You have the option to hear a "beep" from the computer when a character is so selected. These "hover" methods give an additional layer of protection against combined "click-and-screenshot" keyloggers. SafeKeys 2.3 will optionally mix your password in with random characters as you type and you can also elect to scramble the keyboard layout from the standard QWERTY form to the Dvorak or a random layout.

Thanks to MT for providing these apps.

Just thought I'd point this out as I got burned by it: There are some viruses/worms that trick you into installing the virus on your flashdrive/USB key by putting a new instruction in the little window that pops up saying "new drive plugged in - what action do you want to take (open folders, nothing, play with WMP..etc)"

Of course if all your portable security is on a flash drive that gets corrupted, then your CafeKlysmic options are stymied somewhat!

There's a good article on what to do to prevent (and/or cure) this type of problem. Mostly it's about changing settings in the computer (which you probably won't be able to do in an internet cafe), but there's also something in there about preventative measures you take on the drive itself. It's well worth a read... http://snemelk.hekko.pl/autorun.html

Also, see if you can write protect the flash drive. This year, I'm gonna try running cafekylsm from a CDR.

You'll be fine with starting Firefox from a CDR, but as the medium is not writeable, you obviously won't be able to save any Bookmarks or install addons when running it like that. Applications like Thunderbird and Pidgin will be more limited in their function, but will still be useable. Just be sure you import all of your addresses/buddies do all of your customisations before you burn them to a CD. This section of the Portable Apps site has information about using Thunderbird from a CD.

Thanks for raising the dangers of AutoPlay on public computers. It's really just a variation on the social engineering, "click this icon" trick that virus writers have used since the year dot (or year dot.com?). I'll incorporate advice on disabling AutoPlay in the next cafeKlysm user guide revision. Write protecting your USB drive isn't really a solid choice - any virus worth a dime will be able to remove that attribute very easily, so you get all the disadvantages of the CDR and potentially none of the advantages.
