Nikon vs Fuji

Calling all digital camera geeks!

I'm about to go digital (have been using a Minolta SLR till now) and am trying to decide between the Nikon Coolpix 5700, Fuji Finepix S550 and Fuji Finepix S7000. I've compared them all with respect to Megapixels, zoom range, storage, etc, but was wondering if anyone can share practical experience of any of these models?
Also, being new to digital, would there be any difference between the two makes with regard to ease of putting the pics on CD/websites/etc?
Feeling a bit dumb and worried i'll pick the wrong camera!
Thanks for any advice!

Kat

why not the Minolta Dimage Z3; you already have a minolta, the price is about £264, 10X optical zoom, 4MPixel; the only downside is, I believe, you don't get the image out in RAW format which prevents finer post-processing. Image processing is really not my cup of tea.

I'd stick with the SLR and buy a slide/negative scanner!

That way you still get your lovely high quality slides and your digital image.
It's what I do and the results are pretty good!

Having used a SLR u may like to buy a DSLR instead. The Nikon D70 is perhaps the best entry level choice selling for $1000...if thats ur budget!

Alternately, small digital compact zooms that fit into ur pockets includes the Nikon 4200, Canon Powershot A85, Sony Cyber shot P series.

I have a friend that is a professional and fussy photographer and he has been using the Fuji for some months and thinks that it is tops and going by the results that I have seen it is magic. The RAW format is important, large image format is essential if you want to make reasonable size prints as in 8x10. it has the ability to give forced 12mpx so I understand, so this camera would and as I have seen covers an extremely broad spectrum of applications

Hey Rob.

I was planning to do the exact same thing and i was wondering if your picture in the photo galery were all made through that process. If so, they look great and i will definitely do that. What scanner are you using? And as i know nothing about scanners, i was wondering if having them put on cd by a store will do the same thing. Also do you have to use positives or negatives or can you use both.

thanks m8
