Need Computer Repair Advice!

My bf had a bit of an accident with his computer involving a touch of beer and his keypad... and is now in need of either a reputable experienced repair shop and/or computer hardware shop...any advice would be most welcome! He has had little luck so far in Goa trying to resolve this. Next stop Bangalore! Any specific tips for this city would be extremely helpful.

Namaste!

I can understand that you feel attached, but after an accident like this there's only one thing you can do, get a new boyfriend.

When this happens:
1. shut the computer off immediately.
2. Lay the keyboard/laptop out in the sun for two days.
3. The beer/coffee/water will evaporate eventually and the residue will not be conductive.

99/100 you should be back in business in a couple of days.

The key is immediate power down and patience.

Hopefully the following information is not too late, but if so, may be useful as a part of a sticky in the future for those who imbibe at their computer and thus have accidents waiting to happen.

Doesn't the protective rubber membrane protect you from all this??

If so lift the cover and wipe down, leave to dry and off you go!

Or is this membrane not waterproof???

There are a plethora of desktop Computer-laptop keyboard configurations, interfaces and their associated proximities to other peripherals out there these days. A quick wipe down maybe in order for some but for others would be nearly impossible and thus a real gamble to put your faith into powering up quickly after doing so.

Open the clssified ads in the Morning New Paper in Bangalore. Else try the yellow pages for Bangalore in the net. There will be guys giving service coming upto your hotel. I got mine fixed in the hotel after a pwer flip in Jaipur almost wiped out the Hard Disk.

Safe Computing. Only way to do it if you care about the rest of your life

Did the OP say if was a laptop or just a keyboard to a machine?

If the latter, buy a new one.

Then make a hobby out the old one, trying washing down, drying out etc etc etc.....

yogini,

1. Is this a laptop or a PC?
2. Is the problem just stuck keys, or more than that?

Here is a link to some instructions on how to clean a laptop keyboard http://www.computing.net/howto/simple/keyboard/

Yes, it will be sticky when the beer dries.

At least it will eventually dry! The big question is what to do when you spill a Bhang Lassi with an extra scoop of Green Goop into the keyboard crevices. ... I'll bet Wazen has done that a few times -- speaking of Wazen anybody heard from him lately???? ....

I need another fix from his excellent adventure!

I dont think its advicable to keep the lap top in the sun for 2 days...pls dont do that...insturd of that..turn off the laptop..disconnect the power...remove the battery form the bck....if you have a hair drier...pls try to blow hot air...using the blower on the key board....then try using the key board...keeping the system off...to chk if the keys on the pad are sticking...if not leave the system for half a day...then try using it....As you said the nxt stop is bangalore...u find a lot of servicing centers in bangalore where u can get the laptop repaired...not a prob..
