Two pin

Indian sockets these days usuaully have two sockets in one, both double round pin. One "two pin socket" is slightly wider than the other so pretty much any two pin adaptor will fit an Indian socket the pin size is around 3-4 mm Diameter!
I hope that has cleared things up for you!!

Happy Traveling

There are things called universal adapters which as the name implies offer more varieties of different plugs all in one than you would ever humanly care to use + at different voltages too. I'm not saying you need one, but when in doubt buy one of those and it will last your for the rest of your life. Note: adapters can be readily bought in India, just we got stuck with a thingie that needed all the usual fiddling about with while standing on your head to keep it in place. Maybe bring one from home to be on the safe side, they're not expensive.

Veronique...

It's easy. The 'International' travel adapters they sell in London do not fit Indian plugs.

India uses the system UK used to use before it went flat-pin.

You can buy adapters here that will take UK plugs. Or you can make your own, if you can get hold of an old UK 3-amp plug (family lived in the same house for 50 years and given to hoarding things? I used to have a couple). Here's mine. I made one with a 4-way as well.

Actually Nick & Veronique there are more than two types of International travel adapters which you can buy in London or anywhere.
To be sure you have to read the reverse label to make sure it covers your country.
Europe, Asia, USA & other areas can all be different International ones.
Try the 'Universal' one, It covers everywhere & is available at all the airport duty free stores,,,,,,

I am also concerned about shipping over my TV, DVD & general electrical equipment, I want to know if it is best to buy a few Universal adaptors in India (which I know they have as I have used them in the Hotels) or should I get a gazillion travel adaptors in the UK?

You'll get adapters in India cheaper than in UK

Universal adapter plug

When you get to India, go to just about any store that has electrical supplies and ask for a Hilex (this is the brand name) Universal Conversion Plug. It will cost abut 40 rupees (.90 cents). You can input just about any plug. The output is the three pin plug you need for India.
