laptops, voltage, and customs
hi everyone,
some questions from a geeky type who can't live without their computer: 1) what to do about bringing my north american laptop to india with regard to voltage? the transformer on my adapter says it can handle a range between 100-240 volts. should i just buy one of those little plastic adapter guys and stick it on the plug, or will that be insufficient? 2) what does indian customs have to say about bringing my laptop into the country? will i have to pay any sort of duty or some such? i will be travelling on an employment visa, if that makes any difference. thanks for your input! |

You don't need an adapter to use your laptop in India and you don't need to worry about the customs because you are allowed to bring one laptop per person into India.

You should have no troubles at all. But a surge/ spike filter is highly recommended. If you are arriving in Delhi, Nehru Place is a good spot to pick one up. I've blown two laptops by plugging directly into outlets at 4/5 star hotels!

You can buy a little adapter here for Rs.15/-
This doesn't change the woltage or anything, it just allows you to plug your laptop into the power outlet. You are allowed to take one laptop into India without paying tax. All the best, John.

2 Laptops
I know! What a knucklehead
But if you can say I did it once for me and then once for everybody else then it's going to end up saving a whole lot of Bits and Bytes in the long run ![]() |
