Laptop-- to bring or not to bring?

Hi all,

I need your ideas on whether laptop was helpful or a nuisance. I will be in India for four months on a study abroad program, in Chennai and a smallish town in Kerala. I am thinking about taking my laptop as I will be writing papers and won't really be moving around that much (only a couple times throughout the trip, I will be in homestays for a month at a time). I also like the idea of having photo storage capability and my music. However, it's a pretty big laptop, and it seems like a hassle to be worrying about losing it during traveling/having it break.

If I didn't bring my computer, how easy is it to find computer access and how much would it end up costing? If I did bring the computer, would I be able to access the internet from it easily? what is the wifi situation like? and how easy would it be to find a printer?

Get the laptop, getting a wireless internet access is not an issue in most places. You would have to suscribe with the service provider and use the thumbdrive kind of device which they provide to connect to the internet wirelessly. Printers should be available in the nearest town, very easy.
