Ipod/laptop question

Hiya, hope you can help on this one.

I've spent ages adding new music to my itunes today and now, when I plug my ipod in to my laptop update it nothing happens.
Its like the computer doesn't recognise the ipod is there - anyone know what to do?

girlone, before you go through all the trouble.. what kind of ipod so you have? Has it ever been linked to another computer in the past? the newer ipod shuffles cannot be linked to more than one computer.

If you have a ipod with the finger wheel, hold down the menu and center button. This should reset the ipod. Otherwise you need to get new software for your ipod

Good Luck

Does the Ipod show up in Itunes? If it does, then the USB port is fine but auto-update may be turned off. Right Click on Ipod on left hand side of Itunes and then left click on Update.

If your computer does not even recognize the Ipod but the Ipod still works - it could either be the USB port (highly unlikely) or the Apple data cable (quite plauslible).

An unbranded Ipod data cable costs about 200 rupees but if you want an original apple one, you might have fork out about 1500.

Depending on the model of your Ipod, you can reset the factory settings as well and see if that resolves the issue. But I would give that a last shot.
