We’d be very grateful for info on usage of mobile phones in any of the following places. We’re starting in Bodhgaya, then travelling to Darjeeling, then to Gangtok, then rural southwest Sikkim around Pelling, Ralang & Gezing. Then back eventually to Kolkatta

You can pretty much make and receive international calls from anywhere your phone gets a signal. So almost all the places you list, with the possible exception of parts of rural Sikkim, but a lot of areas there will be connected, too.

And if there is no mobile phone, there will be a 'STD booth' not far, from where you can make international calls.

Please search the forum.. there is a lot of information on phones out here.

from the list of places that you have mentioned only Pelling, Ralang & Gezing might have connectivity problems...as they seem to be remote..

other member might throw some light on it..

i made and received mobile calls everywhere in sikkim--both domestically and to the US--many of which were to and from the good captain, with whom i also communicated by text message.
