Just 10 days before I opted for a Hutch connection solely with the purpose of getting Unlimited download/Hours of GPRS access for Rs.499/-.
From to day all of a sudden Hutch has announced that they are going to charge 50 paise for 10 KB of data sent or received, that means(1024kb/10=102.4X.5)= Rs.51.20 per MB. Besides the access charge of Rs.199 per month. Data sent is mine Data received is the concerned Web site’s property. How can these Dacoits charge for something which they don’t own. All the Broadband wallas are openly declaring the downloaded data charge, which is not owned by them. All over the world only access charge is collected not the Download charge. TRAI please do something. For my part I have DE-activated my GPRS and tomorrow I am going to throw my Hutch connection. Last edited by Madrasdada : Sep 5th, 2004 at 19:11. |

Yep if it is so it's daylight robbery. Hutch is probably trying to subsidise the enormous amounts of money they shelled out on the not so succesful G3 telephone networks!!

51.20rs? are you sure about it? ..thats pretty expensive yes..have any source for that info?
Although..in most countries you do pay for the traffic also. In Sweden you pay 24rs for 0.2MB |

Try Airtel. I use Airtel with my Treo and laptop at time to connect and its a breeze. The support and customer service is top notch and so are their prices. Cyberhippie You are mistaken The 3 network launched by Hutch is a absolute hit in Hong Kong and they are launching it in other markets shortly. It might not be that popular in Europe yet but iot will catch on. Asia especially China is a bigger market for handsets and new tech these days.

Yeah I know about the successes in Asia but Hutch and others paid dearly here in Europe for licenses and they will have to have a major upturn in earnings to see some real profit.
Your right of course it will get there but in the mean time Hutcheson is having a lean time of it in Europe and that may last for some years until all the software services get up and running to make the bundle a bit more attractive. I know a little bit about this as my dad was project manager for Nokia installing the new 3G network in Scotland. The net work is in, recouping costs may take a while! And I agree with you oldhippie Asia is going to be the market of the future, I'm astonished at the spread of handsets throughout India in the last 3 years. But in the meanwhile their grinding their teeth in Europe (how are they in the USA with 3G popular??) wondering how to get their investment back! |

Cyber
They had a lousy start in HK and had to drop prices on the service plans and handsets before it took off. Also initially the handsets were rather large and not compatible with regular networks. I think Europe will catch on in a year or two. People in Asia especially HK, Taiwan & China seem to have more disposable income and have to buy the latest gear. Bill |

Me too think of changing to BSNL or AirTel. There is a problem with their roaming too. They are no way near to BSNL in national roaming. Initially I bought Hutch becouse of their nice ads (& also me genetically allergic to government owned companies). But it looks like BSNL is going from strength to strength in coverage, economy etc.
In one way their (Hutch's) adv. here is right. Where ever you go only that dog follows & not their network ![]()
