How much a cell phone cost in India? Which models?
We need a gsm cell phone for use within India. Our needs are phone, phone, and phone. No web, camera, stock quotes, etc. Can do without color. Should be light weight, strong enough construction (will bounce around in backpacks), long battery life (access to working electricity could be on and off).
How much would such a model cost in India? We are open to used, but should be available in mainstream shops. Do you have specific models torecommend or warn against? Come on mobile experts, we need you! |

Try the orange India site
http://www.orange.co.in/buyorange/pi...collection.asp I would reccomend the Nokia 1100, it is pretty rugged. Also, if you shop around you might be able to pick up a phone for 10-20% less than the list price. |

Re: How much a cell phone cost in India? Which models?
I bought the Nokia 3315 with warranty , taxes and other freebies like prepaid connection, phone cover, strap etc for 3,850/- a couple months back. At the same time a Motorola phone (Dont remember the model ) was available for 3250/-.
Shop around and you can get some good deals. There are other cheap phones costing around 4000/- or less like the Nokia 3310 (Back to the market !). Motorola and samsung phones are also available for cheap prices but somehow the Nokia feels more rugged. ![]() |

Yes , phones are cheaper than in the US and many other places but this applies more to the lower end ones. High end phones are often more expensive or only available on the grey market. This is quite a change way back when phones cost a ton and the ones sold officially were often outdated. My first phone was the Motorola D368 which cost me 11 K way back in Jan 2000 along with post paid connection, deposit etc.. That was outdated, had connectivity problems, bulky and was a pain to sell off. Got gypped by the cell phone company ![]() eater Of course yes. The Nokia 3315 is independent of provider and you can get International calling along with the post paid / pre paid connection. This phone is larger than those in the price range but is rugged, covers can easily and cheaply be changed and has good resale value. Battery life is good too. The Large screen and buttons makes it easier to use especially for SMS . This is also dual band and should work without problems all over India. I bought this for my niece who is using with a Hutch connection. I myself had used a 3310 with two different providers (RPG and Hutch) who were on different bandwidths. |
