help me plsss (smartmedia cards)

hi all,
yaar there is a big problem here.
i took two smartmedia cards, 16 mb and 28 mb.
the 16 mb card has 37 pics. the 128 mb card has 200 pics + 2 videos
now during the trip the 128 mb card conked out. i mean, as i opened the digi cam to take another pic, the lcd monitor showed "write protect". however the photo indicator was showing that space for obnly 51 pics is left. thios meant (i thought) that those 200 pics + 2 videos r still there. however, when i try to browese through them, it shows "no picture".
i tried to check it on my lappie. it shows 91 mb as occupied and the rest as free space. but still does not show any file. what shall i do now? shall i try for data recovery or use a file recobvery software??
i wiill upload the 37 pics from the other smaller card on webshots in a day or 2 and then post the link here.
it was a verrry verrry beautiful trip. the most beautiful trek of my life, coz i guess i was the 2nd trekker of the season, so no one else was there. also, there was lots of snow .. almost 4 feet at har ki dun. i saw everything .. clear weather, blue skies, snow and even a snowfall
if only i can somehow recover the pics from that card ... there r just too many of them ...

Look on the bright side: you could have been blown up!

But seriously, recovery software can't do any harm, I guess. I don't have any experience, but it would be good to know recomendations before it is needed.

Anyone?

Those pictures will be on there somewhere, I've experienced a similar problem before, I also thought I'd lost my pictures forever.
I took the card into a good photo shop in the uk & they performed a full picture recovery & retrieved them all.

So all is not lost
Good Luck

Oh dear

When ever I see this thread in the list I think it is someone asking for assistance in the toilet

Going to a pro shop sounds like a good idea. There are many of them around.

Try another one - free ware:http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

PC INSPECTOR™ File Recovery 4.x is a data recovery program that supports the FAT 12/16/32 and NTFS file systems.

The current version 4.x replaces the previous version 3.x, which is now over 6 years old.

Here are some of the new features in PC INSPECTOR™ File Recovery 4.x
• Finds partitions automatically, even if the boot sector or FAT has been erased or damaged

• Recovers files with the original time and date stamp

• Supports the saving of recovered files on network drives

• Recovers files, even when a header entry is no longer available. Competition products cannot recover such files. The "Special Recovery Function" supports the following disk formats:

ARJ AVI BMP CDR DOC DXF DBF XLS
EXE GIF HLP HTML HTM JPG LZH MID
MOV MP3 PDF PNG RTF TAR TIF WAV
ZIP

Glad to hear it; well done

Digital does have its advantages: couldn't recover anything from the four blank rolls of film I brought back from my first trip here. Oh well, at least it meant I had to come back

Hi all,

Reopening this thread. This time I have a camcorder and we accidentally deleted all the pictures. Found a software on www.download.com which allows you to find the missing files, but to recover them, you need to buy it. You can only recover the files which are less than 640 KB in size in the free version. However, since these are video files, these are really quite big and would need some other software which can recover large video files (for free)

any suggestions?
