Headphone

Hi all

I am planning to buy a nice set of headphones for my mp3 player which will also be used with my latop, office PC & sometimes for gaming .I need your suggestions as this site has lot of people who like travelling & they might have used headphones while travelling & then found out its pros & cons
I need headphones which i can use everyday, anywhere anytime without my ears taking the hit ( In short headphones that are comfortable for long hours ) Not to mention great sound quality.
Bose noise cancellation headsets r for 8k.At this time i am checking out creative headphones.

Any suggestions

Cheers

Sennheiser are almost always great. AKG are worth a look for cover headphones. If you're up for earplugs, something like Sennheiser CX300s are great - they are not noise cancelling as such, but noise blocking, and this basically means you're not turning up the volume to block external noise so that the sound appears louder = better for your ears. There's also Koss The Plug and Sparkplug - similar design, cheaper but I couldn't vouch for them.

i think Sony makes the best small headphones. Unfortunately, their quality has gone done hill on the cheaper models.

In the affordable range of earphones, Ive been very happy with these Sony in-ear thingies for several years.

Just before buying them I tried the Koss Plugs and thought they were rubbish. I gave them away to someone who wanted to try the web-published method of adapting them to make them listenable-to

I was always tempted by some of the more upmarket stuff like Shure or, especially, Etymotic but couldn't quite bring myself to spend nearly £200 on a pair of earphones!

Once you enter that upmarket world you can investigate stuff like custom-made earmoulds too!

But my Sony's changed London tube-train music-listening into a pleasure. I did upgrade them in the end --- to a car!

Thumbs up Several type of earphones

Namaste,
I have the bose quiet 2 ($300USD) JVC ($100USD) for Over the ear headphones. But this link will cover all sizes and ear plugs with white noise Smallest isolation earphones in the world! Perfect for bikers. ...
earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/

It is all in the money you want to spend, but remember that only earplugs with white noise generators will stop heavy snoring

But as I said it is important to ask how low the white noise will block out. I use mine for other things but to to block out snoring, my snoring was compared at a Vipassina retreat as one who snores like a lion roars, so I always get a single sleeping room

i have some noise cancelation headphone, ebay around $20. They are great for the plane, cuts out that fan noise, amazing really. i find them helpful for long flights.
But i don't use them for music. I don't really like headphones, they damage the ear drum. so if anyone is in delhi next month i will be happy to pass them on, i don't want to carry them for months anyways.

I use sonic impact t-amp and sound pax portable speakers - they are awsome portable stereo! if your interested:

That looks like fun equipment!

I've never liked the sensation of headphone use: I dislike that feeling of being isolated. But, for train and plain, etc, headphones it has to be...

Another problem for me is that the 'usual' shape of earphone just does not stay in my ear: it has to be the 'in-ear' type. Even my Sony's will not stay put for long --- but long enough.

The High end, and custom ear-fitting, would have been nice --- but not for the economy that I live in now

Listen up or can't heat a thing

nick,
I know what you mean like to hear music, but not the isolated.
That why I have so many types, I do need to be aware of my surroundings, so out side its one ear(mono) or none I have about 3 or 4 still have not found one that total isolate and then stop when I want to hear what is going on around me. I really only use them when I am inside a safe place or deserted place am I wierd or what, no it'just the PTSD or I prefer live sound around me.

Can't win for trying, that what I say
peace, gregor

My GF got me a new iPod for my birthday, so I treated myself to the Shure E3c in-ear headphones, I found them difficult to get used to, uncomfortable and poor value for money (£120 or Rs10,000). (wait, read on)

After 3 days of battling with them, I took the (new, improved) iPod headphones to work with me, what a dreadful day I had, the volume was lower, and the sound was extremely boxed in.

I then went back to the Shure E3c's and decided to try the many different ear moulds that came with them, I found the right ones and was amazed at the sound.

Now (only a week later) I wouldn't part with them, I have a 2 minute period where they feel uncomfortable, then I don't notice that I have them on, I'm now listening to songs to appreciate someone's voice instead of only listening to good tunes.

As I'm doing this post, I just popped the iPod headphones back in, I couldn't listen, it was awful.

I'd definitely recommend the Shure headphones, even at that price, but don't expect results immediately; they take a bit of time to get used to and a lot of fiddling about with the different ear moulds.

A word of warning, they really do block out any outside noise, more so than I expected, be very careful walking along the street with them on, at the same time, they keep sound in your ear and you don't annoy the person sitting next to you on the bus.

(Edited to add....it's been 3 weeks now since I got the headphones, they seem to get better with time, I've now realised that I never get that tired/yawning feeling I used to get when I wear headphones.)

Thanks Steven. Hope you're allowed to take the iPod on the plane when you fly and will be able to take advantage of your new 'phones ---they sound (no pun intended) great!

With only an occasional Indian overnight train journey and a rare (probably) flight back to the UK I have so little need for such things now that they are off the budget list --- even the dream section! Well, almost off the dream section
