Free wifi access around India

Maybe, something handy for people who are travelling with there laptops around India.

Are there any free wifi points in India where you can access "The Net" without paying for cost ????

Here in Amsterdam we have a couple of free wifi points.....

I've heard of people being able to connect through nearby office networks that are not secure

I have a Widget on my desktop that gives me a list of all of the free and paid for WiFi HotSpots. It does have serious limitations to its database though. The web address

Wifi HotSpots India Lists

Gujarat: ROMINDIA G-301, Tulip Citadel Flats, Bh Shreyas Foundation, Manekbaug Road, Ambawadi,, Ahmedabad, 380015, India no mention of Free or Paid

There are heaps in Bangalore and Mumbai but not indication that they are free

I've never found a free hotspot, or even an open (unprotected) one in India. Plenty of secured wi-fi in 5-star hotels. I'd say it's going to be a few more years before businesses start offering them as a matter of course, the way cafes in America do. Not so many laptops in India yet, methinks. Bring your ethernet cable and connect at the cyber cafe. Or better, if you're in India to travel and explore, leave the laptop at home.

Since I am facing this for such access near someplace I am heading to manana I will pose a question. How much is it worth going out of one's way to find such a spot when cybercafes are so convenient in India.?

edwardseco, I have no idea about costs but got to CafA Coffee Day pretty well anywhere in the larger centres and check out their WiFi charges, a subscription may allow to zoom in on any of their hotspots in the country. It possibly would be much faster than a cybercafe and therefore cheaper.

Yes, because traveling with a laptop will prevent you from exploring India!

This attitude is so archaic, not to mention trite. It's thanks to laptops and mobile phone access that I'm able to travel around India at all. The only thing that can confine you in India is YOU. I'm liberated by having a laptop and I do more than my share of exploring thankyou.

To the OP: why bother with wifi when you can get a Reliance phone or datacard so cheaply and use RConnect. The only place it's not worked is Munnar so far and some reception trouble in Fort Cochin and Darjeeling. Apart from that it's fast and cheap.

One thing to be extremely aware of is that WiFi is not secure, anyone on the same link can view your connection so ensure that information that you send or receive is encrypted, especially passwords, code numbers or anything sensitive. BE WARNED!!!!!!!

just a quick addendum to this topic: I found free wifi access at Cafe Coffee Day in Delhi. N Block, CP. After a long day's sight-seeing this is a good place to fire up your laptop and get an iced tea.
