After three years of being synonymous with "digital music player," Apple's iPod will widen its horizons and gain photo-viewing capabilities within the next 30 to 60 days, highly reliable sources tell Think Secret.

Missed this thread earlier , so it was total news for me when it became official today. The 40 gig model weighs 182 (+23 grams) and is supposedly the same thickness as the regular model - methinks it looks fatter.Screen 224x176. Beefed uped battery.
No direct-connect to camera via USB and a pricetag close to the airfare to India. |

According to Phil Askey from Dpreview.com, the Photo iPOD isn't quite as useful for photographers as it appears. There's no easy connect to your camera, needing an adapter (sold separately $$$), and the processor will not be able to render images very quickly for viewing.
So for the price tag.... ouch!!! Sure you get great MP3 stuff, but really... Story available here: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0410/04...eipodphoto.asp |

A new camera connector for iPod Photo will start to sell in March , according to Apple.
Previews speak of a price around 30 USD , and nifty size (see photo in link) . No mentions of transfer speeds ( which have had a bad review here with the clunky Belkin USB 1.0 media reader) or if it can be used with a card reader to save camera battery. Prices have dropped too, the 30 gig model costs USD 349 (fifty bucks more than the 20 gig iPod) and there is also a 40 gig model , slightly more expensive. |

Can't I get a simple 20GB mp3 player, which can double into a storage media and has a good battery life?. The simplest of requirements.

i could point you in the direction of an x-drive but its missing out on the 3rd and final qualification... pity because they come with a compact flash slot too if your camera has one.

photo iPod..
an american publishing company that has something to do with playing games and a boy... has tied up to stream images onto a users iPod.iPod is the thing to have for young guys and girls here in Japan. From an indian perspective i'd rather buy a really small laptop or palmtop that are available here (in Japan) and use it as an iPod during the commute to work and back... ![]()

yeah, battery life!! My friend got an Arcos gmini 400. Very cool. Has a flash card slot. Got some 20GB, plays mp3, just take your flash card from the camera and insert it into the gmini and you are done. I could go on a one month trip and not worry about storage. but battery of 2 to 3 hours, sucks.
